INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The marketing and communication intern should have experience with print, web and social media. Interns will be asked to help with the following tasks:
Website:
- Create photo journalism blog/newsletter each week
- Help make improvements and updates to the website
- Help increase the number of blog/newsletter subscribers
Social Media:
- Help create 3-5 social media posts per week
- Highlight and review events in media outlets
- Help increase “likes” & “follows”
Photo Journalism:
- Visit sites/events to take photos and learn about GROW programs to write blogs and posts
Marketing:
- Help create print media to promote GROW programs and events
- Create newsletters for schools and volunteers
- Connect with media (online calendars, news outlets)
- Write press releases to promote events
Other :
- Event marketing, planning and execution
- Help establish venue, food/drink and entertainment plus logistics for fundraising events
- Meet with supervisor and other interns for trainings and weekly meetings
- Assist in garden lessons as needed
- Help maintain gardens and hoop house as needed
- Communicate with volunteers as needed
- Help with other tasks as needed
Some interns have taken this as an independent study
REQUIREMENTS: 6-8 hours a week for the duration of the semester for a total of 90 hours. Three of the required hours must be between the hours of 8:30-11:00 or 12:30-3:00, Monday- Friday. Must work well with others. Has transportation (bike or car). Can accurately document intern hours.
QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a team, is comfortable working with children, has experience coordinating and working with volunteers, and the ability to get from their house to each school - the furthest one is 3.5 miles from UWL campus.
