Basement Makeover
Along with all our arts programming comes many art supplies. These supplies are stored in our basement, which is in need of a bit of TLC from you! If you enjoy sorting and developing systems to organize things, this is the group volunteer opportunity for you!
The mission of Artists Working in Education (A.W.E.) is to provide youth in the Milwaukee area with arts enrichment programs to enhance human potential, advance learning and cultivate community. A.W.E.'s two main initiatives are the Truck Studio mobile art program and the School Studio artist-in-residence program. A.W.E. arts learning experiences encourage children to become inquisitive, creative, flexible, imaginative and confident.
As a volunteer, you will come to our office, work independently to sort, and organize art supplies, which are stored in our basement. In consultation with AWE staff, you will determine what needs to be thrown away and where things should be stored. You may be asked to develop inventory systems. Ideally, the group of 2-3 volunteers will work a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 6 hours each days. This will allow a more efficient process to happen over several phases. Our timeline for completion is October 15th as this will help us prepare for sharing art with the youth of Milwaukee!
The volunteer should be able to walk up and down stairs and lift 30 pounds. A training is provided. A.W.E.'s office is located at 4315 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee, WI 53208.
