Winter is coming…
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee has just the opportunity for your team or company to volunteer together. Our Camp Whitcomb Mason needs volunteers to help prepare 300 acres of campground for winter. Join us on Wednesday, September 26 for a massive cleanup effort. This event will run from 8:30am – 5:00pm with whole or half day shifts (8:30am – 12:30am & 1:00pm – 5:00pm) available.
Volunteer roles & needs include:
- Grounds Maintenance - Help prepare our camp grounds for winter. Clearing leaves, brush, weeds, and trimmings. Volunteers will be provided with rakes and other needed equipment.
- Wood chipping - Volunteers will work in teams and each member will need to be able to physically shovel wood chips into a wheel barrow, move wheel barrow along paths, and/or rake wood chips onto paths. Camp will provide wheelbarrows and rakes.
- Buckthorn Removal - Volunteers will work in teams and each team will need to be able to physically cut buckthorn with loppers or hand saw, move buckthorn branches to drop points, and/or carry sprayer for chemical application to cuts. Camp will provide hand tools.
- Prairie Gardening - Volunteers will take a wagon ride to a distant garden on the campgrounds to dig up plants then take them back to transplant in the Senior Village prairie garden and adjacent to Friendship Lodge for future campers to see and appreciate. Camp will provide shovels, buckets and tarps.
- Cabin Painting - There are still a few cabins that could use a coat of paint before the snow falls. Volunteers will scrape away flaking paint before applying a fresh coat of camp’s signature brown and green paint. Camp provides paint brushes and paint.
We are always in need of work gloves, we are asking volunteers to BAP, LAP! (Bring A Pair, Leave A Pair!)
