Music is a light in the darkness for those affected by Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. The Longest Day is a nationwide opportunity sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association to demonstrate love for those affected by these diseases. Homme Home for the Aging is hosting musicians to spread joy among our residents, especially those in our Memory Care program on The Longest Day. Families, friends, and volunteers will be invited to join residents for the musical performances.
The Longest Day will take place on the summer solstice (June 21, 2018). Musicians and/or musical groups are asked to play a forty-five minute set beginning at the top of every hour from 8:00 am - 7:00 pm. Ideal candidates for this opportunity have a set that lasts at least forty-five minutes, play music that is reminiscent of the 1920's - 1960's, classical, gospel, and/or appropriate for sing-a-long. We have several pianos and an organ available for use. We also have hand-held instruments available for residents to use during performances, when appropriate.
Musicians and/or musical groups are welcome to sign up for more than one set based on their schedule and current bookings. Musicians and groups will play in one of the common areas inside our building or outside in our courtyard. Given the size of our building and our population, up to two musical acts can be booked during any given time period. This is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain, acts will be moved into the building. If signing up online, musical groups should sign up as a team.
