Description

Family Event

The focus of the Fair is sustainability, environmental education, and environmental stewardship. Attendees can participate in hands-on gardening demonstrations, watch a live raptor presentation, learn how to cook a local healthy meal, shop at the farmer’s market, participate in the Healthy Kids Day Dash and many other children’s activities, talk with local “green” and alternative health therapy businesses, tour the marsh, win door prizes, eat delicious food, and listen to live music—just to name a few. The Earth Fair is held in Myrick Park and each year has had increased attendance – primarily families with young to adolescent children.  There truly is something for people of all ages at the Earth Fair.

A Recycling Fair, hosted by the Gateway Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, takes place in conjunction with the Earth Fair each year. The event, which is held at nearby Emerson Elementary School, offers collections taken by Dynamic Recycling, Confidential Records, Runde Metal, and WAFER.  The 2016 Recycling Fair collected 59,528 pounds of electronic waste, 7,500 pounds of paper, 1,460 pounds of scrap metal to benefit the Boy Scouts, and 1,186 pounds of food donations for WAFER! Also, the La Crosse Area Family YMCA holds a Healthy Kids Earth Day Dash before the Earth Fair for over 300 registered children. Western Technical College gives tours of their new passive house on 24th Street.
