Description

The Make-A-Wish mission is 'together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses'.

Wish Granters work in teams of two alongside Make-A-Wish staff to ensure every eligible child’s wish comes true. Wish Granters meet with the Wish Child and their family to discover the child’s wish, plan special 'Wish Boosts' during the wish journey, and present the wish to the child and their family once it has come true.

How to Become a Wish Granter:

  1. Attend a New Volunteer Orientation and Wish Granter Training. We will send you more information about our next available Orientation and Training sessions (online option available).
  2. Complete an application, submit three reference questionnaires, complete a phone interview, and sign our Conflict of Interest & Ethics Statement. You will receive these materials after your orientation. Make-A-Wish policy requires that all paperwork is completed and returned to the Make-A-Wish office within 90 days.
  3. Complete a background check. Background checks are required for all volunteers; a possible criminal background will affect your ability to volunteer with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin.
  4. Start Granting Wishes! We will assign you your first wish to get the ball rolling, and you will be paired with a Mentor Wish Granter to help you as well. After your first wish, you will be able to sign up for wishes online, and we ask that you sign up for at least 2 wishes every year to maintain your status as a Wish Granter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin's Volunteer Manager, Ali Schilz (aschilz@wisconsin.wish.org).
