Who We Are
Mission: To provide Brown County elementary schools with volunteer tutors to help students improve their literacy skills.
The Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program coordinated through the AmeriCorps Seniors Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at The Volunteer Center of Brown County. Reading Coaches for Kids is designed to increase students’ reading abilities and academic success.
Though Reading Coaches can be any age over 18, at this time we are especially looking for volunteers ages 55+ to be a part of the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program to provide intergenerational experiences.
What We Do
Dedicated, caring volunteers provide consistency and educational support by working individually and/or in small groups with students during the school day in Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms, helping children improve their reading skills.
Reading Coaches must pass school district volunteer requirements (including a background check) and are asked to commit to a minimum of one hour per week over the course of a school year. No educational background is needed; training and ongoing support are provided, and trainings are regularly scheduled throughout the year.
