Who We Are

Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps engages more than 95 members each year in their communities through several programs including:

  • Afterschool which focuses on academics, both in school and afterschool.
  • Volunteer Wisconsin which focuses on improving organizational capacity to recruit and manage volunteers through effective practices.
  • Recovery Corps which focuses on the development of recovery coaches to support the reduction of opioid and other substance abuse disorders.

AmeriCorps, often referred to as a domestic Peace Corps, places individuals within communities to commit a year to serving others. Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach is a national service grantee.

Each year AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.

CNCS officially began operation in 1994 and in September of that year, the first class of AmeriCorps members—20,000 strong—began serving in more than 1,000 communities.

Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1,000,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.3 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.

What We Do

Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps Afterschool annually invites afterschool programs, with a desire to close the achievement gap for their youth, the opportunity to apply to be a host site.  Host sites follow the Academic Plus program that promotes academic success, personal/social development and healthy active living for youth ages 5-14.  The program operates from September through August of the following year.

Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps Afterschool places individuals with afterschool programs throughout northwestern Wisconsin to strengthen programming. Individuals serve as part of a case management team, working directly with at-risk, school-aged children. They provide homework assistance during the school year and organize physical activities and/or provide information on nutrition, personal/social skills or healthy active programming for the enrolled children.
