Who We Are
The mission of the Women's Resource Center is to provide crisis intervention, advocacy, education and prevention services for a diverse population of victims or individuals at risk of domestic abuse and/or sexual assault, by promoting positive changes for individuals served and the broader community in Racine County.
Women's Resource Center was founded in September of 1977, spearheaded by the Sisters of St. Dominic and other concerned women who wished to see an end to domestic violence. Over the past 35 years we have grown to provide a continuum of safety services, emergency shelter and a small permanent housing project in rural Racine County. We serve individuals and families of all backgrounds, cultures, ages and sexual orientations. All of our services are aimed at creating safety and self-sufficiency for a lifetime for victims fleeing abuse.
Women's Resource Center provides a place in the community where victims, day and night, can confidently turn when facing a crisis specific to abuse and/or assault. As the only domestic abuse shelter serving the entire Racine County area, Women's Resource Center has provided refuge to thousands of women and children with potentially life-saving programs since 1977. Women's Resource Center is a non-profit organization that provides information, education, counseling, referral, support, and shelter to battered women and their children.
What We Do
Women's Resource Center is a trauma informed care organization that provides individually tailored services to help victims of domestic violence heal from the wounds of abuse and achieve safety and self-sufficiency for a lifetime.
Founded in 1977 as an emergency shelter and crisis line, Women's Resource Center services have expanded to include permanent housing, support groups, holistic healing services, legal advocacy, counseling services for children-teens-families, community-based advocacy, services for male victims of abuse, advocacy programs in Spanish and a rural outreach program in Western Racine County.
Women's Resource Center has a long history of providing local leadership to address unmet community needs and services for domestic violence survivors and their families. We work closely with other systems and non-profit organizations to ensure that Racine County is sensitive to the individual needs of victims. We play a leadership role in helping other systems hold perpetrators of violence accountable.
Awareness, outreach and education are important components of the work that we do.
