Who We Are
Founded in 1977, The Women’s Center remains the only agency of its kind in Waukesha County.
Their mission is to provide safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking.
The services offered by The Women’s Center include emergency shelter for abused families, transitional living, counseling, child abuse prevention programming, legal advocacy, and employment counseling. We also provide Hispanic outreach, community education programs, information and referral services, and a 24-hour hotline.
What We Do
The Women's Center provides a variety of programs and services which include:
Emergency Shelter: Shelter provides safe, confidential, short-term housing and support to adults and their children who are in imminent danger of domestic abuse.
Domestic Abuse Counseling: Adult and children survivors of domestic abuse can participate in short-term individual or group counseling. Domestic Abuse Counseling services are also available in Spanish.
Sexual Assault and Abuse Counseling: Adult and children survivors of sexual assault and abuse can participate in short-term individual or group counseling.
Legal Advocacy: Legal Advocates help victims of abuse or harassment file temporary restraining orders and injunctions and also offer support to victims at court hearings.
Community Education: Our Violence Prevention Advocate will speak to small and large groups in the community about domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse.
24-Hour Hotline: Staff at The Women's Center will answer questions and offer support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Employment Counseling: Workshops and counseling are available to help survivors obtain or retain employment. Clients identify their skills and employment objectives with the help of an employment counselor. Services are offered in English and Spanish.
Transitional Living: Safe, affordable housing and support services are provided to women and their children while they make the transition from an abusive environment to independent living.
Family Support Project: Parenting classes and short-term family counseling teach families positive ways to deal with stress, manage behavior, and communicate effectively.
Onsite Childcare: Onsite childcare is available during support groups, classes, and counseling appointments.
