Rock River Coalition

Who We Are

Rock River Coalition is a basin-wide, not-for-profit organization founded in 1994. Its members are private citizens, businesses, conservation and historic organizations, Chambers of Commerce and local and state agency staff. Our mission is to educate and provide opportunities for people of diverse interests to work together to improve environmental, recreational, cultural and economic resources of the Rock River Basin. We envision a community that is inspired to take collective action to protect and improve our resources for all, now and in the future in the Rock River Basin. Our vision includes clean waters; plentiful native fish and wildlife; accessible opportunities for recreation; and vibrant sustainable cities, towns, farms, prairies, wetlands, forests and cultural sites.

What We Do

Rock River Coalition has a stream monitoring program around the Rock River Basin; we also do invasive species education and removal in the streams and rivers around the watershed. Every spring we host rain barrel workshops in a few municipalities around south-central Wisconsin, teaching people about water conservation and how to put together a barrel for their home garden. Recently we have begun forestry projects, one at a school in Watertown, another in Beloit focused on planting free trees for low-income residents, and at organizations that serve the community.
