State of WI Board on Aging and Long Term Care

The State of WI Board on Aging and Long Term Care is an advocacy agency focused on improving the quality of life for the elderly living in WI! We advocate for the interests of Wisconsin's long term care consumers, inform those consumers of their rights, educate the public about health care systems and long term care. Our values encompass: respect and dignity for the individual; protection of their rights to be free from threats to health, safety and quality of life; fairness and transparency; and open, clear and consistent communication. Our Volunteer Ombudsman Program serves individuals ages 60 and over who are residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Wisconsin.

Volunteer Ombudsmen and Volunteer Advocates protect the rights of elderly people age 60 years and older by making unannounced and focused weekly visits in long term care facilities. We empower residents and family members to address concerns if possible, and voice concerns for residents who request for us to do so.  We observe general conditions and daily activities.  All residents are given a brochure or laminated card listing their Resident Rights and information on the services available by the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.
