Volunteer: Volunteer Tax Preparers Needed for NE Wisconsin Tax Aide SitesTax Aide is looking for volunteers for the 2025 tax preparation season (February through mid-April 2026). Volunteers work at one or more of our 10 local NE Wisconsin sites to prepare taxes for residents, may of whom are low- to medium-income and 50+ years of age. Volunteers assist taxpayers in identifying tax forms and documents needed to prepare returns and use IRS-certified and encrypted software to enter taxpayer data to create Federal and state returns. After completion, a Tax-Aide volunteer explains the returns to the taxpayer. Tax preparation is done in a group environment. Volunteers acquire tax knowledge by attending local Tax-Aide training classes (held in December and January) and through self-study. All volunteers are required to take and pass several certification tests administered through the IRS and Tax-Aide. Typically, volunteers work two days per week (5-6 hours per day) during the tax season (February through mid-April), in addition to their training hours before the filing season. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide reimburses volunteers for mileage for tax preparation and training. Leadership opportunities are available for those interested.
