Disaster Health Services Team volunteers use their professional skills as licensed healthcare providers to deliver hands-on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count toward nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4 to 12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10 to 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts, is required. Medical Screener volunteers join the blood collections staff to ensure timely processing of donors at blood drives. Medical Screeners collect and confirm donor demographics and health histories, determine procedure eligibility, and conduct physical exams (oral temperature, pulse, blood pressure). This position provides you with the opportunity to validate your training and skills at a nationally recognized organization while providing service to your community. Multiple natural disasters have already occurred and it looks to be a busy disaster season. Join now to get trained and gain experience locally so when the time comes you can deploy to national disasters.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) members directly help people affected by disasters ranging from wildfires to hurricanes by providing food, shelter, essential relief supplies and hope. Locally, our most common disaster is home fire. The skills you learn locally are invaluable and make you more effective and efficient. You can also support disasters "behind the scenes" with planning, logistics or volunteer management.
