Volunteer: Group Event Assistant

MVMEC hosts several groups during the course of the year. This includes school groups, scout groups and bus tours. Examples of what group event assistants would be asked to do would include providing for things like overall tours of the museum, an educational station talk on a particular period of military history or flag folding demonstrations. Jobs depend on the request of the group as to what they would like to see. Knowledge of military history is a plus, but we will be available to help you get your feet under you. This can be a very rewarding job, as one interacts with veterans, their families, or children interested in learning about our veterans and their history. Events are usually scheduled Mon-Fri, and mostly last 1-3 hours.

Volunteer: Make-A-Wish Wisconsin: Wish Granting Volunteer, Ongoing

The Make-A-Wish mission is 'together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses'.

Wish Granters work in teams of two alongside Make-A-Wish staff to ensure every eligible child’s wish comes true. Wish Granters meet with the Wish Child and their family to discover the child’s wish, plan special 'Wish Boosts' during the wish journey, and present the wish to the child and their family once it has come true.

How to Become a Wish Granter:

Attend a New Volunteer Orientation and Wish Granter Training. We will send you more information about our next available Orientation and Training sessions (online option available). Complete an application, submit three reference questionnaires, complete a phone interview, and sign our Conflict of Interest & Ethics Statement. You will receive these materials after your orientation. Make-A-Wish policy requires that all paperwork is completed and returned to the Make-A-Wish office within 90 days. Complete a background check. Background checks are required for all volunteers; a possible criminal background will affect your ability to volunteer with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. Start Granting Wishes! We will assign you your first wish to get the ball rolling, and you will be paired with a Mentor Wish Granter to help you as well. After your first wish, you will be able to sign up for wishes online, and we ask that you sign up for at least 2 wishes every year to maintain your status as a Wish Granter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin's Volunteer Manager, Ali Schilz (aschilz@wisconsin.wish.org).

Volunteer: Craft Supplies for Girl Scout Programs

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland Council has a mission to build up girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. We provide K-12 programming in the areas of STEM, the outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship. At many of our events, it's Girl Scout tradition to exchange "SWAPs" which stands for: Small or Special whatcha-ma-call-its Affectionally Pinned Somewhere. SWAPs are a small symbol of friendship that Girl Scouts proudly display on their sash or vest. They can be a momento of a trip taken together as a troop, a memory of a time they tried something outside their comfort zone or just a way to say thank you for being a sister to every Girl Scout.

We are currently in need of SWAP making supplies to get us through the year! We thank you for your contribution to Girl Scouts in Dane County!
