It is a self-regulation process that focuses on training attention in order to foster general mental well-being and develop the capacity for calmness. If you are interested in doing a DIY Volunteer Project with your group, please follow these simple steps:
STEP 1: Call United Way before starting your DIY Project so that we have can discuss greatest needs in the community and your timeline. We also need a little lead time to touch base with partner programs to make sure your kits go where they are most needed and to ensure our partners have the time to prepare to receive them. Contact: info@marshfieldareaunitedway.org or call 715-507-5005 STEP 2: Make a plan of action plan for your group to gather/buy/solicit materials and assemble the kits. Your plan should include the following: Purchase the suggested items OR host a drive or fundraiser to purchase items. Assemble the kits. All kits should have most of the above items or additional items. Place in a Ziploc bag. Include a homemade card or drawing. Sign it "From a family who cares." Have fun with this and celebrate your time working together to help others in our community! STEP 3: When kits are ready, contact the United Way once more for final assistance in coordinating where they should be dropped. Whenever possible, we will have groups drop their kits directly at the local agencies that will distribute them, but the final drop location will depend upon storage capacities at our partner agencies. STEP 4: Spread the word! Tell others about your experience and about these opportunities to create more DIY projects! Agency: DIY Group Volunteer Projects

Volunteer: DIY: Birthday Cake Box
Do you want to prepare birthday cake boxes for those in need?
WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE A BIRTHDAY CAKE BOX? 9×13 disposable aluminum foil pan – The ones with the lids work great because you can package it all up neatly! 1 box of cake mix - any flavor 1 can of frosting 1 can of Sprite or other lemon-lime soda (store brand will work). Soda is used in case the recipient doesn’t have eggs or oil. Include a note to simply combine the cake mix with the can of soda and bake according to the box directions. Birthday candles Of course, you can add more things if you would like. Great additions include birthday tablecloths from the dollar store, sprinkles, colored frosting tubes, streamers, birthday plates, etc. WHY DO I ADD A CAN OF LEMON LIME SODA? Did you know that you can make a delicious cake out of nothing but a box of cake mix and a can of lemon-lime soda? Well, you do now! Not everyone has eggs and/or oil on hand. Imagine how disappointed you’d be if you got a birthday cake box but didn’t have the other ingredients to make it. Volunteer: URGENT - Blood DonorsDonate Today, You'll Save Lives Tomorrow What makes volunteer blood donors so special? Blood cannot be made or manufactured. It’s a gift that can only be given from a volunteer donor. About one hour is all it takes to provide the lifesaving gift of blood to patients in our local hospitals. Right here in our community, volunteer blood donors are connecting lives and sharing life through blood donation. Blood donation couldn’t be more important. There is no substitute for blood, so when a local patient is facing cancer treatment, surgical procedures or the uncertainty of a traumatic injury, it’s volunteer donors who help ensure that the blood needed is on hand. And the need is great. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood – that’s 35,000 blood donations needed every single day! Volunteer blood donors respond to this need, and for that, we are extremely grateful. To that end, we do all that we can to ensure the best possible experience for our donors. The moment you visit one of our donor centers or blood drives, our courteous, professional staff will work to make your visit brief, comfortable and something you’ll look forward to doing again (in eight weeks, we might add). With your whole blood or platelet donation, your generous gesture could make all the difference for a local patient in need. Schedule your donation today and be a part of someone’s story. Donate today; you’ll save lives tomorrow. Volunteer: Pantry Supplies Needed for ShelterWith the increase in the number of PDC participants in shelter (20-35) daily, the increased food insecurity of non-residential participants, and the soaring cost of food has created a level of need we have not encountered before. Our food budget has dramatically increased, putting a strain on the agency's budget. Personal Development Center relies on the generosity and kindness of our community and the surrounding areas which has always been amazing. During the holidays we receive food donations, which are used to stock PDC’s pantry with dry goods and canned food. This year, due to the increased need, our panty is currently the lowest level it has ever been. We have less than a 30-day supply of food for nutritious meals in shelter. We are asking our supporters and the community for help. A list of the most used grocery items is attached. Even one can of soup or vegetables can make a difference. PDC is committed to the health and safety of our community’s most vulnerable.
