Volunteer: Are You Ready to Make A Difference and become a Hospice Volunteer? In the realm of compassion and care, few roles hold the significance and transformative power quite like that of a hospice volunteer. It is experience that transcends the ordinary as you touch the lives of those in need with grace, comfort, and companionship. Being a hospice volunteer is about dedicating your time and presence to others. Whether through a gentle touch, a listening ear, or simply sitting quietly by their side, you become the steadfast support those facing end of life seek. Volunteers can read books, newspapers, or magazines to patients or even share their own stories. For patients who enjoy the company of animals, volunteers with trained therapy animals can visit and provide companionship. Hospice volunteers who have served in the military can share their experiences with a hospice veteran and participate in a pinning ceremony. Being a hospice volunteer is a calling that allows you to provide empathy, allow yourself to be vulnerable, and embrace the stories of each individual as they celebrate their life journey. Volunteer: Host a Diaper and Diapering Supplies Drive for Mom’s in Need! Many pregnant women and new moms in Milwaukee County are in crisis. The WCS Maternal Health Improvement Team serves pregnant women, new moms and their families. Our team works one-on-one with women to support them as they work to achieve their recovery and related goals. This includes connecting them with the medical, mental health, and substance use treatment services they need, as well as working with them to find safe and affordable housing, healthy and affordable food options, clothing, transportation, and other basic resources they need to be healthy and thrive. We have found that new moms who take part in our programming are in significant need of diapers and wipes for their infants and toddlers. If your team would like to make a difference in the lives of new moms and their children, please consider hosting a Diaper and Diapering Supplies Drive! A baby typically uses 2,500 diapers in a year. Perhaps your team could consider sponsoring one woman with 2,500 diapers or even five women with a gift of 12,500 diapers! Our moms will benefit greatly if they don’t have to worry about having enough diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy, and can focus on prioritizing their health and the well-being of their families. To host a drive or to learn more about how the WCS Maternal Health Improvement Team helps women improve their health and develop new life skills, please contact development@wiscs.org. Volunteer: Family DinnerEating together is so valuable! Every Tuesday at 5 PM, Lighthouse Recovery Community Center hosts a family dinner for peers connected with LRCC. This family dinner often serves 15-20 people. We invite individuals or small groups (2-6 people max) to prepare a meal. Preparation may be done on-site or off. Serving and sharing in the meal are welcome, though optional. This is a wonderful way to get to know the peers and staff. The time commitment may range from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the meal. The on-site time commitment is much less if you decide to make the meal ahead and drop it off. Occasionally, there is the opportunity to prepare a "holiday meal" that we share on an alternate day. We can help offset food costs if that is a barrier to preparing a meal. We love having our community visit! Please call or email ahead for availability. You will be asked to sign a privacy waiver when you volunteer. Agency: Lighthouse Recovery Community Center Eating together is so valuable! Agency: Lighthouse Recovery Community Center Opportunity Type: Volunteer Date: Is Ongoing Zip Code: 53081 Allow Groups: Yes |
