Volunteer: Access Community Health Centers Wish List - Children's Books, Diapers, Bus Passes, and Clothing! At Access Community Health Centers, our mission is simple but powerful: Improving Health. Improving Lives. Each year, we serve more than 33,000 patients by providing compassionate medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy care to individuals and families who might otherwise go without. But good health is about more than medical visits—it’s about dignity, comfort, and the chance to thrive. You can help close the gaps that create disparities in health and opportunity. We are seeking donations of essential items that bring warmth, stability, and hope to those we serve. Picture and Chapter Books for and teens in multiple languages help nurture learning and literacy in our clinic waiting areas--but our collection is stronger based on your donation to keep our shelves full. Diapers and onesies can make a world of difference for our youngest patients. Through our Maternal Child Health services, we provide these essentials to families who need them most. Bus passes provided by the Patient Services Team offer a lifeline, helping patients reach their important medical appointments and access critical community resources. Blankets, sweatshirts, and sweatpants for both adults and children offer warmth through the cold months, while new socks bring small but meaningful comfort and dignity. Each of these items makes a profound difference. They help restore hope to someone facing difficult circumstances, improve quality of life for families, and remind our patients that their community cares deeply about their well-being. Together, we can continue to build a healthier, more equitable community—one act of kindness at a time. To arrange a donation for any of these items, please contact Emilie Schada at Access Community Health Centers, emilie.schada@accesshealthwi.org. Thank you. Volunteer: Donation for Community NeedsThe Families + Neighbors Together (FNT) and Student Engagement Team (SET) program are community-based Sheboygan County Health and Human Services programs. The FNT program highlights our commitment to our community and residents. The work is centered in two City of Sheboygan neighborhoods where additional support is needed. The south side location is the Wesley House, located at 829 Union Avenue. The SET program is also located in this south side location. Our north side location is at St. John's UCC, located at 1248 Lincoln Avenue. FNT is community-focused and engaging to local stakeholders, not-for-profit agencies, schools and, most importantly, residents of these neighborhoods to create collaborative networks. These networks focus on neighborhood-based prevention and early intervention efforts to support families, communities, and agency partners. This program offers resource referrals, advocacy support, and problem-solving assistance to residents in the areas of housing, food security, employment, and health via relationships. The SET program is a voluntary program working with students at Sheboygan Area School District Middle Schools (Etude, Farnsworth, George Warriner, Horace Mann, and Urban) , Howards Grove Middle School, and Random Lake Middle School. Students are referred by school social workers or other identified school staff. SET provides the student, their family, and the school district with an option besides the traditional responses of using a citation or making a referral to Youth Justice to address truancy. SET involves both the student and their family participating in agreed-upon supports and services based on their needs. It is the intention of SET to provide support and assistance so that students can be successful in school, at home, and in the community. The Wesley House location is also in the process of starting a community garden for FNT/SET families and neighborhood residents to utilize. This can be an avenue to build community connections amongst neighbors and increase access to fresh produce.. Details: Clients in both the FNT and SET programs are frequently in need of basic household items or food. Current needed items can be located on our Amazon Wishlist. Items donated will directly benefit clients in the FNT and SET programs. No donated items will benefit Health and Human Services employees. Volunteer: Adoption Application ProcessorApplication processors work within an animal adoption software program. The program provides detailed information about each cat adoption applicant. The processor uses this information to follow several steps in making a decision about whether the applicant meets criteria for adoption. The steps include checking for previous applications from the applicant, conducting a background check on all adults in the household, checking home ownership in online records or phoning/emailing landlords for apartment dwellers, calling vets for care history on current and past animals, and calling one to two personal references. Once the steps are completed, the processor updates the software program on the status for that applicant. If approved the processor sends the application on to an adoption coordinator. The steps can usually be completed for four applicants within 2-3 hours. If information is requested of applicants or calls are not completed to vets or landlords, more time during the day can be required. In addition to processing applications, the processor monitors a 9 Lives email account for messages from applicants as well as a chat conversation with other 9 Lives personnel. The organization holds periodic social gatherings. Location: Virtual volunteer job in your own home. Computer or tablet recommended to do the job. Phone required. Time required: 1 and ½ day shift. First day is following application processing steps for up to 4 applicants. Second day is follow-up for those applicants if needed. Volunteers usually work one to two shifts per week. The days of the week for work can be arranged. Requirements for the job: Work independently. Good verbal and written communication skills to communicate with applicants, vets, landlords, references and others in the 9 Lives organization. Computer and phone skills. Texting skills if choose to text instead of use phone for some contacts. Willingness to receive phone calls from landlords, vets, and references. Good organization skills to keep up with overall status of applicants and with steps to complete application processing for each person. Judgment to know how to make decisions about applicants and about when to ask for help (chat or email others in the organization). Availability to work 1-2 hours during business hours for calling vets and landlords. Willingness for calls from references or unreached landlords to come in outside work hours. Volunteer: Host a Move-In Kit Drive!Host a Move-In Kit Drive at your workplace, place of worship, or school and help families moving from homelessness to housing. A Move-In Kit can include: Laundry basketCleaning suppliesPaper towelsBroomMopDishrackBasic Kitchen UtensilsPlates, BowlsHowever, there is no wrong recipe for a Move-In Kit. All household items are welcome and help families establish a fresh start. Please note that Hope House cannot accept furniture or large appliances due to limited capacity. Why Your Drive Matters At 6 years old, a significant portion of Brielle’s experience included being homeless. Brielle’s family had been without housing for a year, doubling up with family and friends and when that was no longer an option, staying in emergency shelters before being connected with Hope House and moving into an apartment. Shortly after Brielle’s family moved into the apartment, their Case Manager, Leslie, visited with a move-in kit of household items and cleaning supplies. Something case managers at Hope House can do with the support of your donations. Brielle excitedly greeted Leslie, gave her a big hug, and as her family went through the supplies, she found the dish detergent and said excitedly, “and now we get to wash our own dishes!” Brielle’s excitement for a task many take for granted is a reminder of the power of your support - providing stability, dignity, and the comfort of home to families. How to Host a Drive Hosting a drive is easy and you know your community best. We suggest having solid start and end dates for taking collections, sharing stories like the one above, and leaning into the strengths of your workplace, place of worship, or community. Hope House can provide signs and speak to your group (when available). We do ask that donations be dropped off at Hope House (209 W. Orchard St., Milwaukee, WI) at the end of the drive as we have limited capacity for pick-ups. Volunteer: Hope Garden ProjectHope Garden Project Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services Inc is a non-profit agency that provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, 24-hour crisis support, empowerment services, legal advocacy, support groups, and youth services to survivors experiencing domestic abuse. We believe that volunteers are vital partners in fulfilling our mission and strengthening our organization. Volunteers provide us with their unique talents, skills, and time, that in turn plays a crucial role in serving our clients. We are committed to the recruitment, training, and support of volunteers to help us reach our goal in ending the cycle of domestic violence. Christine Ann would like to redesign the garden on the front lawn of the building into our Hope Garden. This garden will be planted in memory of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and to “plant the seeds” of hope to those affected by domestic violence. This spring, we will begin to plant the garden. We will plant throughout the year, depending on when the different plants will thrive best to be planted. We will then need volunteers to come in routinely to maintain the garden. Requirements: Must be able to kneel/squat for extended periods of time Must be able to work with hands Must be able to work in the sun for extended periods of time Have basic knowledge of how to care for plants successfully We are very passionate about this garden not only to honor the lives lost to DV, but also to honor and foster hope for survivors of DV. This project would not be able to come to fruition without the time, hard work, and support of our volunteers. If you are interested, please reach out to Rachel, our Volunteer Coordinator at: 920-230-2913 or by email at rachelf@christineann.net or visit Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services - Volunteers Agency: Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Center Inc.
