Volunteer: Weekends- 1:1/small grp activities with older adults!Looking for reliable volunteers on the weekends at Mulder Health Care Facility who like working with older adults. Volunteers will be coming independently (without rec therapy staff there to lead) once comfortable after a short orientation and can do 1 on 1 visits or small group activities appropriate for our residents. Keep in mind, many of our residents have dementia or Alzheimer's so games usually have to be simple or modified. Examples of things to do with our residents: visiting, crafts, being read to, puzzles/crosswords, reminisce, anything musical, etc. Recreation Therapy can also set you up with materials if needed. When: any time throughout the weekend. For our residents, typically the best time is in between meals in the late morning (between 9:30-11:30), afternoons, or early evening. Mulder Health Care Facility requires all volunteers to have a short orientation, a recent TB test (can be done at our facility for no charge), and a background check. Since we require these things to be done, we prefer our volunteers to at least have a time commitment of around 3 months or equivalent in the frequency of your hours to make it worth your time and ours. Come have fun with the elderly! Volunteer: Coach Youth Soccer in Madison's Low Income NeighborhoodsWho We Are
What The Millennium Soccer Club (MSC) is in its 24th year of providing affordable and accessible soccer programs for elementary school youth living in several of Madison's lower-income, ethnically diverse neighborhoods, many of whom might not otherwise have an opportunity to play. These programs (offered each fall, spring, and summer) focus primarily on providing basic instruction in the fundamentals of soccer along with giving our participants an opportunity to have fun playing in a wide variety of soccer games. Who Our neighborhood-based programs are open to both boys and girls who will be playing together on teams in one of our two grade-level divisions: 1st/2nd and 3rd-5th. This fall, we anticipate that MSC’s soccer programs will serve over 250 kids. Where Millennium’s fall sessions will be held at 3 schools: Huegel, Leopold, and Lincoln Elementary School and 2 parks: Marlborough and Warner Park, which are located in our targeted neighborhoods in south Madison and on the east side. When The upcoming fall season will consist of six sessions on Saturdays, beginning September 20th and ending on October 25th. We have a rain date of November 1st in case we need to cancel due to weather. Program Set-Up Each session, which consists of a combination practice and game, runs from 9:30-11:00am. For the first half of the session, our coaches will lead their teams through a variety of challenging activities that focus primarily on the development of good individual skills, as well as a number of basic team-related skills. In the second half, each team will play a game against another team in its grade-level division. Since our teams consist of only 6-8 players, the games are played 4v4 (with no goalies), which enables greater involvement by all of our players. Volunteers Needed MSC is currently seeking volunteer coaches for all of its programs this fall. Those who volunteer will coach with the same team at each of the sessions that they are available to coach. It is anticipated, and assumed, that those who volunteer will not be available to coach at all six of our sessions because of school, travel or work commitments. What You Can Expect as a Volunteer You will find that Millennium’s young players really enjoy playing soccer, are eager learners, and work well with their volunteer coaches. Let us know if you wish to coach with someone else who is volunteering. The coaching coordinators at each of Millennium’s neighborhood sites will provide weekly practice plans and coaching tips for their coaches. Want More Information about Millennium? Volunteer: Board of Directors MemberCASA of the Fox Cities seeks interested members for its Board of Directors. Although previous Board membership experience is not required, we do prefer someone who has had some volunteer involvement with a nonprofit agency (committee work, for example). Our current board member needs are for an individual who has previous experience in marketing/public relations/advertising, as well as an individual with a background in fundraising or sales. We also encourage the involvement of men and all individuals from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds to assist us. A passion for CASA's mission of assisting abused/neglected children within local courts is essential. Board meetings are held at the CASA office from 5 to 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month, except for November and December, when it it held on the third Tuesday to avoid holidays. Board members are also required to serve on one of several committees, which carry out the work of the agency. Each committee is chaired by a Board member and we are in specific need of someone to chair our Marketing/PR Committee, as well as a chair for our Fundraising Committee. Total average time investment per month would be 5 to 10, depending on time of year/projects. Board member terms are 3 years, with the opportunity to recommit to a second term upon completion of the first 3-year term.
