We're seeking an adult volunteer to come to the McFarland Youth Center (MYC) about once per week to run a club or program of their choosing. We love it when adults bring in a hobby, interest or passion of theirs and turn it into something that adds value to the lives of the youth we serve. Ideally, the activity would take place for about a half-hour sometime between 4 and 5 PM. This opportunity is flexible and can be terminated at any time by the adult volunteer.

The NEW Zoo needs YOU!

Volunteer opportunities available will depend on the season and weather, but the possibilities are nearly endless!* We require no minimum hour commitments from our volunteers. You can choose your own schedule or choose to assist us with a variety of date-specific events, such as our yearly fundraisers and ongoing educational programs.

Some of the opportunities you have as a volunteer include:

> Helping with the zoo’s special events, such as Zoo Boo, Holiday Fest, and more.
> Assisting with special projects around the zoo, including cleaning, maintenance, art projects, etc.
> Assisting with education programs, such as Summer Zoo Camp and Zoo Snooze overnights.
> Helping with clerical tasks and record keeping.
> Helping in the Mayan Restaurant and Visitor Center.
> Driving the train or running the carousel.
> Supervising the Giraffe Stand.

*Please note that the majority of NEW Zoo volunteers ARE NOT able to work directly with zoo animals, for safety and other reasons. We have many opportunities that are not directly related to animal care. Individuals who are more interested in working directly with zoo animals should consider an Internship instead.

Hospital Cafe' needs volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to help with nutrition surveys given out to patients in order to gather feedback on the quality of the food service. The hours are flexible for this position. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to have interaction with both patients and staff.

There is also a need for volunteers to assist in the new lobby Cafe with helping to keep tables cleared and cleaned off during the lunch period from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers will also assist with other duties as needed. 

Volunteer Guardians Needed!

A legal guardian is a decision maker and an advocate for those who are incompetent due to aging, a developmental disability, chronic mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse (i.e. ward). Guardians ensure that the individual’s rights to proper housing, nutrition, and medical care are met. A guardian is expected to visit their ward at least once a month and complete an annual report. A legal guardian does not financially support the ward, take care of the ward on a day to day basis, nor personally provide a place for the ward to live. Time commitment is based on the needs of the ward.

Volunteers receive training and support from the Brown County Adult Protective Services Unit. A stipend of $15.00 per ward-per month, mileage, and reimbursement for expenses such as copying legal paperwork, postage is available upon request.

Support a Parent

Volunteer mentors spend time (2-3 times per month) with parents referred by Brown County Child Protective Services who have identified an interest in having an informal support in their lives. Mentors often spend time helping parents with minor children enhance skills that empower the family by developing household routines, budgeting money, planning meals and shopping for necessary items, connecting them with other community resources, or simply supporting the parent. Matches are based on compatibility and can continue for as long as both parties are interested though the hope would be to have volunteers engaged with their Parent Pal for a minimum of 18 months.

Orientation and training are provided. Mileage reimbursement is available.

These people living in your neighborhoods have no transportation options or resources and need help getting to appointments. All riders of the program are working with Health and Human Services in some capacity with a known need for transportation assistance.

Our drivers play a vital role in making these appointments happen.
Drivers have a very flexible schedule and can choose which days and rides work best for you and your schedule. Most rides are Monday-Friday from 7am-7pm, with the bulk during the day. You can choose to drive the same individual to weekly appointments, or drive new people each week.
We provide training for all types of individuals you might drive and provide you the resources necessary to drive them safely..

Centro Hispano is looking for a volunteer to assist with the operations of our General Support Program. Services provided through this program include interpretation, education, health, housing, information/referral, legal, immigration, and notary public. This position will aid in the follow up of clients, data entry, as well as other needs as they arise.

Centro Hispano seeks qualified volunteer mentors to work with middle and high school youth at various school sites in the Madison Metropolitan School District (including Toki, Sennett, Sherman, and Wright Middle Schools & West and East High Schools). Mentors are paired with a student participant of one of Centro Hispano’s youth programs and continue to mentor the student for a minimum of 1 year. Volunteer mentors are required to commit to 25 hours of service per semester, an average of 2 hours each week. Volunteer mentors are also required to attend at least one training during the school year. Work study is available for eligible UW-Madison students.

Ministry Hospice Music Volunteer

Play a Song – Change a Life.  Highly trained volunteers assist with end-of-life needs of Hospice patients and their families using their musical talents and abilities.  We encourage anyone interested in bringing joy and comfort, and have the ability to play an instrument and/or sing, to consider becoming a hospice music volunteer!

Ministry Hospice Pet Therapy Volunteer

Highly trained volunteers with certified therapy pets provide emotional support and comfort through therapeutic interactions with pets.  For patients living in facilities, pet visitation may be used to enhance positive physical, cognitive, emotional and social interactions, as well as to help normalize the environment and reduce stress.

Prior to handler and pet being accepted as a volunteer team, the handler will participate in and successfully complete the standard volunteer training program. The pet must meet all health requirements, and dogs must be certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI) or a similar organization using the same criteria for certification. Minimum age: 18

Our professional, trained staff will be with you every step of the way and in our Community-based Mentoring Program, where you plan activities in the community and spend time together around town. College students, young professionals, retirees, high school students and many other adults make great mentors!

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Ozaukee County is seeking volunteers who are interested in making positive change in their community through one-to-one, professionally supported mentoring relationships. In our School-based program, volunteers mentor children in K-8th grades in structured school settings in Ozaukee County. Male and female mentors, aged 16 and older, are needed to start the enrollment process now for volunteer opportunities starting this fall. In this school-based program, volunteers (Bigs) who have been matched with a child (Little) meet weekly for a minimum of one hour during the school day. Together, the volunteer mentor and the child concentrate on academic achievement, recreational activities and emotional development. "Bigs" and "Littles" are matched together based on similar interests and values. Our School-based coordinator provides adult oversight, planned activities, directs match support and outcome measurement. This opportunity is part of United Way's effort to mobilize one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors nationally to ensure more children graduate from high school.

The Cathedral Center is a shelter for homeless women and families facing an emergency housing crisis. We are home to 32 women and 8 families for up to 90 days while they work with our case managers to achieve a personal action plan.

Volunteers help us keep things running smoothly and provide the comforts of home through our Hospitality Program!

Groups of 5-8 people sign up to provide a meal which they purchase, prepare, and deliver to our clients on a monthly or semi-monthly basis. Through this program we are able to provide a meal 365 days a year! Our Hospitality Program is great for parish groups, clubs and organizations, corporate groups, and friends and families who want to serve a home cooked meal with a friendly face.

CASA volunteers report their concerns to the judge, and advocate for the best interests of the child to ensure the child has a safe, nurturing permanent home.

Provide a fun and meaningful education experience for children (schools, scouts, daycares, preschools, etc.) in the Garden!

Tours take place throughout the developed areas of the Garden as well as our natural areas. Tours are typically 1.5 hours in length and can cover between ¾ mile to 1 ½ miles. Each guide will lead 15 to 20 students along with several adult chaperones.

Our Hospital Support volunteers are those individuals who assist at the main entrance with escorting patients and visitors throughout the hospital.

Provide beautiful, inspiring, well-maintained public gardens. Gardening Outdoors begins in April and concludes in mid-November, dependent on the weather. 

April-May ~ take part in Green House transplanting and dividing plants, adding compost and mulch to the flowerbeds, cutting back plants, and removing mulch from roses and planting roses. Spring cleaning in the gardens consists of sweeping, picking up twigs and leaves and other debris.

May-June ~ beautiful summer landscapes require planting annual and perennials flowerbeds, watering plants and fertilizing roses, and of course, mulching, weeding, dead-heading, and digging spent spring-flowering bulbs.

June-Sept ~ maintain the gardens by weeding, mulching, pruning, dead-heading, and staking plants, as well as sweeping, and raking leaves.

Sept-Nov ~help prepare for winter and next spring by planting bulbs and perennials, cleaning up beds, mulching, and putting roses to bed.

Pick up meals from preparation site and deliver to elderly and disabled individuals who are home-bound in our community by following a delivery route sheet. Must make contact with each participant before dropping off the meal.

Help campus staff with special events held during the day, nights or weekends.  This would include helping with setup, decorations, and perhaps coordinating special projects, updating bulletin boards, and much more. Some light cleaning duties for specific areas. (I.e. Art Gallery, Costume Room, Theatre, etc.) Helping out with Inventory of equipment and supplies would be helpful.

This is 4-6 hours a week with flexible hours.

Is your passion planting flowers or landscaping? This is an opportunity for you to do some flower planting, landscaping, raking, and sweeping throughout the UWSP at Marshfield Campus. Some experience is helpful but not necessary, it is 2-3 hours in the winter and about 4-6 hours during the summer time with flexible hours.

Administrative/office volunteers needed at the UWSP at Marshfield Campus. Some of the activities involve filing, data entry, answering the phone, customer service, and other light office duties. We ask that there is some knowledge in Microsoft Word.

Love coffee and good food? Our Doc Rock Café is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to make coffee drinks, take food orders, use a computerized cash register, and provide excellent customer service. It's a great way to interact with visitors, staff, and other volunteers in a fun environment. Training is provided. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers of all ages, but has been especially popular with some of our high school volunteers (plus great job experience!). Volunteers sign up for weekly or twice-per-month 3- or 4-hour shifts. 

This is our traditional one-to-one mentoring option where children and volunteer mentors meet 2-4 times per month throughout the Milwaukee and Waukesha communities. Matches spend time together engaged in activities they choose based on mutual interest. Each match is unique and develops a schedule that works for them. Match outings are flexible and easy to plan. Activities can include playing sports, going over schoolwork, visiting a museum, volunteering together, or just hanging out.

Matches can participate in many events planned by Big Brothers Big Sisters throughout the year too! 

Bigs and Littles are matched based on similar interests, personalities, experiences, and distance from each other.

Volunteers are needed to plant seeds, plants, water and maintain growth of vegetable plants for Green Power garden plots.  The garden is supported by U.W. Extension and you will be guided by a master gardener during your shift. 

We welcome a large variety of shifts every day of the week, and look forward to matching your schedule and ours.  We suggest approximately a two hour shift but we are flexible.   Individuals, corporate groups, community groups and families are welcome and needed to support our community!

We start our efforts in Spring and garden throughout the summer and early Fall.  Later in the season harvesting, weighing and possible delivery needed also.  Thousands of pounds of fresh produce is provide to local pantries and those in need.  

Plots are sectioned off to assist with social distancing and gardening tools are available.  If you have your favorite shovel, rake or weed trimmer, bring it along.  The garden is near 164 and Hwy 59.  We will provide complete directions upon confirming your shift.  

We do encourage you to bring sun screen, bug spray, water and work gloves.

What do you need?

Some events may require a specific skill like outdoor cooking or knitting, but many require no prior knowledge at all. Events are held year round and volunteering is very flexible. You can pick what interests you, specific dates, and determine how frequently you would want to volunteer. During the school year, a majority of events are held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons, with some events held on weeknights. During the summer, events are during the weekday and some Saturday mornings and afternoons. At many events, girls rotate through various stations; each station focusing on a specific project or skill that may fulfill a requirement for the recognition they are working towards. We need lots of extra hands to lead or assist at these stations. Event topics include environmental awareness, outdoor skills, the arts, health and wellness, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), business literacy and more!

Volunteers are required to wear a face mask while indoors at a GSWISE property or when they are within 6 feet of others on the property.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own face masks but if they do not have one, a mask will be provided for them.  We have hand sanitizer and cleaning products available in each facility, which are cleaned and disinfected daily.  All GSWISE staff members will be wearing masks when working with girls and volunteers. Help co-facilitate our children's classes.  Volunteer for one or more classes. Supportive and experienced individuals are needed to facilitate alcohol and drug recovery groups. Volunteers are asked to share their experience, strength and hope with community members who are new to recovery or seeking assistance to show that recovery does work.

Volunteers visit sites throughout Waukesha County (Health and Human Services, Jail, Huber, Mental Health Center, and more) with a partner to provide support for community members who have alcohol, drug dependency and other addictions. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and experiences. Annually our volunteers lead over 500 recovery groups. Each group is one hour in length and we ask volunteers to minimally assist with one group per month. Groups are currently run weekdays, weekends, and weeknights.

If you are a people-person, this is the volunteer job for you! Greeters volunteer for two 3.5 hour shifts monthly (9-12:30 or 12:30-4:00); two greeters are scheduled for each shift, 7 days a week. Training is provided. Most Olbrich Greeters sign up for a 6-month commitment and stay for years.

Training is provided through staff-supported onboarding, online training modules and local co-mentoring sessions with experienced chapter mentors. The Fox Cities SCORE chapter covers 8 counties, with an office location in Appleton.

This opportunity requires 10 years of restaurant business experience. SCORE mentor opportunities provide flexibility, as you schedule your meetings with assigned clients at mutually agreeable times. 

Volunteers spend approximately 10-15 hrs per month meeting with clients face to face, by phone or via our online mentoring system on Zoom and participating in associated chapter meetings and mentoring prep work. Hours are flexible. Basic computer skills are required.

There are some minimal training requirements to understand Sierra Club procedures and policies that can be done online, and you have to take a first aid course we will provide or can pay for. Older adults and people with disabilities needing someone to drive and assist in running errands, grocery shopping, doctor visits, etc. Some will want a companion to accompany them, others may just need a ride or help to pick up items for them. Flexible to meet client needs and your schedule. 

In addition to our usual volunteer registration process, you'll need to be authorized by us to drive a client.  We'll need a copy of your driver's license, proof of insurance and consent to conduct a driver's record check.

Looking for reliable volunteers on the weekends at Mulder Health Care Facility who like working with older adults.

Volunteers will be coming independently (without rec therapy staff there to lead) once comfortable after a short orientation and can do 1 on 1 visits or small group activities appropriate for our residents. Keep in mind, many of our residents have dementia or Alzheimer's so games usually have to be simple or modified.  Examples of things to do with our residents:  visiting, crafts, being read to, puzzles/crosswords, reminisce, anything musical, etc. Recreation Therapy can also set you up with materials if needed.

When: any time throughout the weekend. For our residents, typically the best time is in between meals in the late morning (between 9:30-11:30), afternoons, or early evening.

Mulder Health Care Facility requires all volunteers to have a short orientation, a recent TB test (can be done at our facility for no charge), and a background check. Since we require these things to be done, we prefer our volunteers to at least have a time commitment of around 3 months or equivalent in the frequency of your hours to make it worth your time and ours.  Come have fun with the elderly! When: Rec Therapy staff has programming every weekend on Sat from 2pm-4:30pm.  Volunteers are also welcome to come do activities independently once oriented at a time that works for them.

What will you be doing: Assist in activities such as table games, reading groups, crafts, musical programming, and much more!  Have any hobbies or interests you want to share with our residents? We are open to ideas!

Create a welcoming, friendly visitor experience at the Arboretum Visitor Center welcome & information desk volunteer.

As a volunteer in the Arboretum visitor center you will greet and welcome people from across Madison and around the world. You'll help people have a good visit by answering questions, suggesting tour routes, providing maps and other brochures. Welcome & information desk volunteers also answer phones and direct calls to appropriate staff people, and occasionally help with clerical tasks. This is a great position for outgoing people with good communication skills who want to foster a welcoming, inclusive experience for visitors of all identities.

We offer training as needed for potential volunteers. Staff and experienced volunteers provide the training. We also offer continuing education opportunities so volunteers can learn more about the Arboretum and the natural world. Volunteers are asked to make an initial commitment of two shifts (4 hours each) per month for six months following training. Good interpersonal skills are essential. Fluency in languages other than English is a big plus!

We are looking for volunteers to assist with activities during any of those times and are flexible to fit your schedule. Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist in activities such as table games, reading groups, musical programming, exercise groups, painting nails, and much more! We also always need assistance with sanitizing supplies/materials or prepping activities in the Recreation Therapy office.

This is a great opportunity to provide support to Agrace patients and their caregivers. You will be able to visit with patients and provide much needed respite to caregivers. Volunteers may also assist by doing light housework or meal preparation, if requested.

The requirements for this volunteer position include the following;

Volunteers will complete a 1-hour virtual orientation training course and a 1-hour virtual home care training course, which is provided by Agrace to prepare you for your volunteer role. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to complete a 2-step TB test and background check.

Agrace general administrative volunteers provide support to Agrace HospiceCare staff through a variety of administrative job duties.

Examples of these job duties are: filing, data-entry, copying and record-keeping. This role is available Monday through Friday 8-5 p.m.

The requirements for this volunteer position include the following: Complete a volunteer application and an orientation session. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and will require a 2-step TB test and yearly TB screening, paid for by Agrace.

Agrace has beautiful gardens thanks to the labor and love of gardening volunteers! The gardens provide a peaceful and renewing space for Agrace patients, visitors, and staff. Agrace is looking for volunteers to help care for the grounds and gardens at our facility in Fitchburg. Volunteers work weekly or every-other-week during the spring/summer/fall season. Duties include planting, watering, weeding, mulching and enjoying bringing joy to others. Volunteers should be comfortable digging, lifting, bending, etc. and enjoy being outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. 

Requirements for this position include the following; completion of the volunteer application, 2 references, 2-step TB test and attendance at an orientation session. Volunteers will be given general hospice gardening training prior to being assigned a particular gardening area.

Be part of the amazing team providing support to our patients! This is a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy working directly with patients and like to do a variety of different things.

Inpatient and Residential Unit Direct Care Volunteers will provide companionship to patients by sitting bedside, assist patients with menu selections, deliver meals, assist with feeding patients and taking patients for walks around the Agrace building in Fitchburg. They will also help with other needs as they arise.

Volunteers will complete a 12-hour training course which is provided by Agrace. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and will require a 2-step TB test and yearly TB screening, which is paid for by Agrace.
