As a proud participant of the We Honor Veterans program, veteran or current military members will have the unique ability to support Heartland Hospice veteran patients through the "vets-for-vets" volunteer opportunity. Heartland Hospice volunteers help to support and enhance the quality of life of those they visit. Vets-for-vets volunteers offer services such as: companionship by just being present for the patient and offering to talk or assisting with non-medical tasks; emotional support through active listening, sharing experiences and stories; allowing for expression of feelings; holding a hand; giving a needed hug; offering words of comfort; and respite support by staying with the patient while the caregiver enjoys a moment alone to run errands, make appointments, or simply take time to care for themselves.

We recognize that veterans share a special bond among each other. The goal of our vets-for-vets volunteer opportunity is to match veteran patients with a hospice-trained veteran who may have a similar background. All patient visitor volunteers receive training regarding the philosophy of hospice, the role of the volunteer and other staff members, as well as, helpful skills in caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Sacred Grounds Coffee Sanctuary provides warm space, coffee, and more for people who are unsheltered/homeless. We are currently open Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

 Volunteers are needed to assist in welcoming people and caring for the various parts of the Coffee Sanctuary (donated clothes/blankets/goods, coffee/snacks, cleanup, etc).

Walker's Point Youth & Family Center is in need of motivated, caring, and team-oriented volunteers and interns to serve as Youth & Family Specialist Assistants at our emergency youth shelter. Youth & Family Specialist Assistants play a crucial role in the day-to-day operation of our youth shelter by providing supportive programming for residents, assisting with crisis calls and intake assessments, and helping staff with overall shelter management.

Our mission: to meet the needs of runaway, homeless, and other troubled youth and their families from Milwaukee's diverse communities by providing services to empower youth, help them resolve personal and family problems, strengthen family relationships, and support safe and stable homes.

Many options for volunteer/intern scheduling are available (weekdays, weekends, or evenings) with a minimum commitment of one 4-5 hour shift per week for one season (~17 weeks). Thorough training is provided.

Many survivors of sexual violence struggle with learning how to care for themselves. The Healing Center strives to help each of our clients learn to engage in self-care by providing them with techniques and skills to get them through various trauma reactions. Volunteers can help by putting together self-care kits for our clients to use. Each kit comprises of a small bag filled with a few different sensory items, such as fidgets, affirmations, and self-care items.

We ask that interested volunteers be able to provide the sensory items to put together, as we cannot always guarantee having any on hand for kit making.

This is a great opportunity for a group!

A healing rock is used to provide an inspirational message to a client who is on their healing journey but may need a little reminder one day. Take for example, Heidi, she is a 24 year old young professional in her first job out of college. She was sexually assaulted at a party in college and has flashbacks, re-occurring thoughts, and nightmares of the assault. Upon entering into services at The Healing Center Heidi has begun to work on techniques to cope through difficult days and one of those techniques is something called, grounding. Heidi keeps a rock in her desk drawer at work with the word: Courage. She pulls it out when she is having a flashback to the assault and describes the texture, color, feel, weight, and letters on the rock. The rock helps Heidi to remember that she is courageous and bring her back from the flashback.

Volunteers can help by creating healing rocks for our clients. Each rock will serve a different healing purpose for each client.

We ask that interested volunteers be able to provide the supplies needed to decorate healing rocks, as we cannot always guarantee having any on hand.

Assisting in the daily care of wild animals for eventual release back into the wild.

The Admitting Assistant - assists staff with moving animals from intake into the shelter. All animals begin their time at DCHS in Admitting. They are provided a Wellness Exam and are dewormed and given vaccinations and flea and tick treatments. There is no animal handling associated with this position.

Thank you for your interest in helping us to solve hunger! We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities at our Milwaukee food bank. We welcome individuals, families, corporate and social groups. 

Volunteers participate in sorting, packaging, labeling, and cleaning projects. This could range from labeling canned goods to be shipped to food pantries, sorting meat products to provide meal programs with real protein, boxing fresh produce to send to homeless shelters, or packing bulk product into family friendly sized portions. Our staff will give you specific information about your task and assist you through your shift. Please note this volunteer activity takes place in a warehouse facility. For safety concerns, volunteers who are 10-13 years old must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the volunteer activity.

Surfaces, equipment and tools are sanitized after each volunteer shift. We may ask our volunteers to assist us with the process.

Volunteer Requirements & Information

Due to the nature of working with mostly donated foods, volunteer projects are not always guaranteed to come in on time or at all. Volunteer shifts may need to be shortened or rescheduled if projects are completed or unavailable. We will make every effort to provide a two-week notice if volunteer shifts will need to be rescheduled.

The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is currently recruiting interns! 

This is a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience in a zoological setting.

Internships can be taken for academic credit, based on guidelines from your education institution. All internships are non-paid and duration varies.  Anyone over the age of 18 can participate in an internship, provided you have the right qualifications and dedication!  Preference is given to applicants looking to earn course credit when Internship opportunities are limited.

Interns are needed in all areas of the program!  A variety of internships are available, including Education & Husbandry, Marketing & Social Media, and even Graphic Design!

The NEW Zoo is looking for volunteers who are interested in supervising the Giraffe Feeding Experience! 

The Feeding Experience is a daily opportunity for volunteers to be involved in, to support the NEW Zoo. You set your own schedule after training by signing up for open shifts whenever you would like to supervise a feeding sessions. Sessions are typically 2. 5 hours long, with some variation seasonally. 

It’s a great opportunity for those who enjoy working with people – as we’ll teach you how to interact with our visitors and help them make amazing connections with our lovable giraffes, Nigel, Eddie, and Zuri!  Of course, you’ll also get to build some pretty special relationships with the giraffes themselves. Scheduling is flexible.

Receptionist needed!

There is a need for Volunteer Support at the reception desk located on the fifth floor of Bellin Hospital. The volunteers in this position will help with answering the phone, guide visitors to the correct area within the clinic, monitor the coffee station and assist with general clerical duties as needed.

The hours are from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m. or from 12 p.m. till 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We're seeking an adult volunteer to come to the McFarland Youth Center (MYC) about once per week to run a club or program of their choosing. We love it when adults bring in a hobby, interest or passion of theirs and turn it into something that adds value to the lives of the youth we serve. Ideally, the activity would take place for about a half-hour sometime between 4 and 5 PM. This opportunity is flexible and can be terminated at any time by the adult volunteer.

The NEW Zoo needs YOU!

Hospital Cafe' needs volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to help with nutrition surveys given out to patients in order to gather feedback on the quality of the food service. The hours are flexible for this position. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to have interaction with both patients and staff.

There is also a need for volunteers to assist in the new lobby Cafe with helping to keep tables cleared and cleaned off during the lunch period from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers will also assist with other duties as needed. 

Volunteer Guardians Needed!

A legal guardian is a decision maker and an advocate for those who are incompetent due to aging, a developmental disability, chronic mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse (i.e. ward). Guardians ensure that the individual’s rights to proper housing, nutrition, and medical care are met. A guardian is expected to visit their ward at least once a month and complete an annual report. A legal guardian does not financially support the ward, take care of the ward on a day to day basis, nor personally provide a place for the ward to live. Time commitment is based on the needs of the ward.

Volunteers receive training and support from the Brown County Adult Protective Services Unit. A stipend of $15.00 per ward-per month, mileage, and reimbursement for expenses such as copying legal paperwork, postage is available upon request.

Support a Parent

Volunteer mentors spend time (2-3 times per month) with parents referred by Brown County Child Protective Services who have identified an interest in having an informal support in their lives. Mentors often spend time helping parents with minor children enhance skills that empower the family by developing household routines, budgeting money, planning meals and shopping for necessary items, connecting them with other community resources, or simply supporting the parent. Matches are based on compatibility and can continue for as long as both parties are interested though the hope would be to have volunteers engaged with their Parent Pal for a minimum of 18 months.

Drivers have a very flexible schedule and can choose which days and rides work best for you and your schedule. Most rides are Monday-Friday from 7am-7pm, with the bulk during the day. You can choose to drive the same individual to weekly appointments, or drive new people each week.
We provide training for all types of individuals you might drive and provide you the resources necessary to drive them safely..

Centro Hispano seeks qualified volunteer mentors to work with middle and high school youth at various school sites in the Madison Metropolitan School District (including Toki, Sennett, Sherman, and Wright Middle Schools & West and East High Schools). Mentors are paired with a student participant of one of Centro Hispano’s youth programs and continue to mentor the student for a minimum of 1 year. Volunteer mentors are required to commit to 25 hours of service per semester, an average of 2 hours each week. Ministry Hospice Pet Therapy Volunteer

Highly trained volunteers with certified therapy pets provide emotional support and comfort through therapeutic interactions with pets.  For patients living in facilities, pet visitation may be used to enhance positive physical, cognitive, emotional and social interactions, as well as to help normalize the environment and reduce stress.

Prior to handler and pet being accepted as a volunteer team, the handler will participate in and successfully complete the standard volunteer training program. The pet must meet all health requirements, and dogs must be certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI) or a similar organization using the same criteria for certification. Minimum age: 18

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Ozaukee County is seeking volunteers who are interested in making positive change in their community through one-to-one, professionally supported mentoring relationships. In our School-based program, volunteers mentor children in K-8th grades in structured school settings in Ozaukee County. Male and female mentors, aged 16 and older, are needed to start the enrollment process now for volunteer opportunities starting this fall. In this school-based program, volunteers (Bigs) who have been matched with a child (Little) meet weekly for a minimum of one hour during the school day. Together, the volunteer mentor and the child concentrate on academic achievement, recreational activities and emotional development. "Bigs" and "Littles" are matched together based on similar interests and values. Our School-based coordinator provides adult oversight, planned activities, directs match support and outcome measurement. This opportunity is part of United Way's effort to mobilize one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors nationally to ensure more children graduate from high school.

The Cathedral Center is a shelter for homeless women and families facing an emergency housing crisis. We are home to 32 women and 8 families for up to 90 days while they work with our case managers to achieve a personal action plan.

Volunteers help us keep things running smoothly and provide the comforts of home through our Hospitality Program!

Groups of 5-8 people sign up to provide a meal which they purchase, prepare, and deliver to our clients on a monthly or semi-monthly basis. CASA volunteers meet with the child and his/her family, caregivers, mentor, teachers, therapist, social workers, attorneys and others involved in the child's life to monitor the child's needs. CASA volunteers report their concerns to the judge, and advocate for the best interests of the child to ensure the child has a safe, nurturing permanent home.

Meal Program: Purchase, prepare, and deliver/serve dinner for up to 86 shelter guests. We aim to have a hot dinner for our guests every single day, as it not only provides nourishment but also stability and community. We recommend, at a minimum, a meat-oriented main course, a vegetable side, and a carb side. Soda/juice and desserts are optional but always well appreciated. Food can be delivered cold or warm, and preferably delivered the day of serving. You can also choose to stay and serve the meal. Please respond/sign-up for details and available dates.

Walker's Point Youth & Family Center is in need of motivated, caring, and team-oriented volunteers and interns to serve as Youth & Family Specialist Assistants at our emergency youth shelter. Youth & Family Specialist Assistants play a crucial role in the day-to-day operation of our youth shelter by providing supportive programming for residents, assisting with crisis calls and intake assessments, and helping staff with overall shelter management.

Our mission: to meet the needs of runaway, homeless, and other troubled youth and their families from Milwaukee's diverse communities by providing services to empower youth, help them resolve personal and family problems, strengthen family relationships, and support safe and stable homes.

Are you high school student who is a positive role model for your peers? Would you like to learn valuable skills to list on job or college applications? Fulfill a need and volunteer as a Peer Counselor to youth, ages 11 to 17. You will assist with the recreational and counseling needs of peers in crisis who seek our services. Provide a link between residents and staff, participate in group sessions and promote good relationships. Hours are flexible (weekdays, weekends or evenings) with a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week for at least 3 months.

Provide a fun and meaningful education experience for children (schools, scouts, daycares, preschools, etc.) in the Garden!

Tours take place throughout the developed areas of the Garden as well as our natural areas. Tours are typically 1.5 hours in length and can cover between ¾ mile to 1 ½ miles. Each guide will lead 15 to 20 students along with several adult chaperones.

Responsibilities: 

Participate in docent training and update meetings prior to each season.

Observe multiple tours with multiple guides before leading your own group.

Facilitate guided tours of Green Bay Botanical Garden to youth.

Have sufficient knowledge of tour content to engage students in meaningful and appropriate ways

Our Hospital Support volunteers are those individuals who assist at the main entrance with escorting patients and visitors throughout the hospital.

These volunteers help to make our patients and visitors feel welcome.

The general duties also involve helping to transport patients via wheelchair when discharged.

There are some non-patient related transports at times.

This is a wonderful opportunity for those who like being active and enjoy a position that offers new experiences.

Hours are very flexible and available anytime between  4 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Veteran Volunteers are matched with a Veteran patient who may have a similar military background.

These unique companion volunteers bring the gift of friendship to our Veteran patients. They enhance quality of life through regular social visits by offering support, companionship and assistance with non-medical tasks to ensure that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort.

Provide beautiful, inspiring, well-maintained public gardens. Gardening Outdoors begins in April and concludes in mid-November, dependent on the weather. 

April-May ~ take part in Green House transplanting and dividing plants, adding compost and mulch to the flowerbeds, cutting back plants, and removing mulch from roses and planting roses. Spring cleaning in the gardens consists of sweeping, picking up twigs and leaves and other debris.

May-June ~ beautiful summer landscapes require planting annual and perennials flowerbeds, watering plants and fertilizing roses, and of course, mulching, weeding, dead-heading, and digging spent spring-flowering bulbs.

June-Sept ~ maintain the gardens by weeding, mulching, pruning, dead-heading, and staking plants, as well as sweeping, and raking leaves.

Sept-Nov ~help prepare for winter and next spring by planting bulbs and perennials, cleaning up beds, mulching, and putting roses to bed.

Our hope, through this program, is to promote the value of the arts in healthcare. The proven therapeutic benefits that are a part of so many areas in arts help many to ease the pain, add joy and raise hope. We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with various art projects at the Team Cancer Center located at 1580 Commanche Ave. Craft activities are provided for volunteers to offer to patients as they receive treatment or assist with assembling make and take art kits. No artistic talent necessary.

Position Title: BEAM Art Cart Volunteer – Hospital Location 

Specific Duties for This Position: Be at the volunteer office 15 minutes early for your volunteer shift. Pick up an art cart and tour route at volunteer office. Walk through hospital route as assigned by coordinator, and visit with patients, and offer art projects. Ask patients to complete activity surveys after completing their project. Collect surveys and forward to BEAM Coordinator. Restock art cart inventory as needed, prepare supplies for next day, and secure art cart in volunteer office at end of shift.

Help out with the daily operations by being the on board safety officer, pointing out points of interest around the grounds and being interactive with patrons of all ages from all over the world! Pick up meals from preparation site and deliver to elderly and disabled individuals who are home-bound in our community by following a delivery route sheet. Must make contact with each participant before dropping off the meal.

You can deliver meals one day a week or one day every other week. Approximately two hours per day on the day that you drive between the hours of 10:30am-12:00pm. Mileage reimbursement is offered.

Friendly Visitor volunteers spend time with hospice patients in need of some additional socialization and companionship. Common activities include reading to patients, going for walks, assisting patients with letter writing, playing cards, or just listening or holding someone's hand during their end of life journey.

Following training by Heartland Bereavement Coordinators, help by making phone calls or personal visits to individuals in Heartland Hospice's bereavement program. Clerical help is also needed in the Bereavement office.

Vigil Volunteers sit with patients during the active dying period who might otherwise die alone or provide relief sitting for caregivers. Assignments available throughout Brown County and several other Northeast Wisconsin communities.

Volunteers and their dogs are needed! Pet Volunteers make social visits to hospice patients with the pet therapy certified dogs 2-3 times a month for increased socialization and companionship. Not pet therapy certified? Contact us and we can provide you with information on how to certify your dog!

Volunteer tutors receive free training and resources. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is needed—just patience and a desire to help another adult who wants to learn. Tutor training occurs three times a year—early fall, winter, and spring.

Tutoring times are flexible. Tutors and adult learners meet 1–2 times per week, for 1–2 hours each time (for a minimum of at least 2 hours per week) at the library or other public spots. We ask that the tutor make a minimum 6-month commitment to tutoring.

Central Wisconsin SCORE provides free, highly professional advisory services to small businesses and those looking to start a business in western Waupaca, Portage, Wood, northern Waushara and northern Adams counties. We are seeking volunteers to work with us to accomplish this mission. Opportunities include working directly with small business people to plan and solve problems, answering questions from small business owners by email, organizing and/or presenting workshops for prospective entrepreneurs, setting up and maintaining our website and social media sites, marketing our services and assisting with chapter administration. Help campus staff with special events held during the day, nights or weekends.  This would include helping with setup, decorations, and perhaps coordinating special projects, updating bulletin boards, and much more. Some light cleaning duties for specific areas. (I.e. Art Gallery, Costume Room, Theatre, etc.) Helping out with Inventory of equipment and supplies would be helpful.

This is 4-6 hours a week with flexible hours.

Is your passion planting flowers or landscaping? This is an opportunity for you to do some flower planting, landscaping, raking, and sweeping throughout the UWSP at Marshfield Campus. Check for any kind of weeding that may need to be done as well as helping to keep the sidewalks clean and possibly other general light yard work may be involved.

Some experience is helpful but not necessary, it is 2-3 hours in the winter and about 4-6 hours during the summer time with flexible hours.

Administrative/office volunteers needed at the UWSP at Marshfield Campus. Some of the activities involve filing, data entry, answering the phone, customer service, and other light office duties. We ask that there is some knowledge in Microsoft Word.

This would be about 4-8 hours a week and are flexible hours.

Love coffee and good food? Our Doc Rock Café is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to make coffee drinks, take food orders, use a computerized cash register, and provide excellent customer service. It's a great way to interact with visitors, staff, and other volunteers in a fun environment. Training is provided. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers of all ages, but has been especially popular with some of our high school volunteers (plus great job experience!). Volunteers sign up for weekly or twice-per-month 3- or 4-hour shifts.
