Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity is currently offering volunteer opportunities to individuals looking to serve court-ordered community service offers. We offer a quick onboarding process, a streamlined reporting process, and multiple volunteer opportunities every week. 

Volunteers will be offered opportunities to complete their service at a Habitat ReStore location in Wauwatosa, Franklin, or Greenfield. Opportunities are available Tuesday through Friday from 10AM - 6PM and on Saturdays from 10AM - 4PM. PURPOSE:

To be on call for Safe Path and to respond in person to the EUCC (Emergency and Urgent Care Center) when paged to provide support and information to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Advocates work in conjunction with SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurses, EUCC nurses, social workers, and providers to enable the patient to make decisions about coping with an assault, collection of forensic evidence, safety planning and reporting assaults to police.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

The volunteer is required to keep confidential all information learned while working in the Safe Path Program.  The volunteer must possess good listening skills, sound judgment and must have the capacity to handle stressful situations.  Must be able to work well with diverse populations.  The volunteer must be able to come to the EUCC within 30 minutes during on-call times.  Volunteer must complete the Safe Path training before performing advocate duties.  Volunteers are requested to attend other Safe Path trainings and volunteer meetings to the best of their ability.

Volunteer mentors help the child adjust to the separation or loss of a parent, enhance self-esteem and confidence, and learn new skills. Matches are invited to attend a fun activity each month that is free of charge. Matches are based on compatibility and can continue for as long as both parties are interested though the hope would be to have volunteers engaged with their Pal for a minimum of 1 year.

Meals on Wheels is a program for homebound, older adults (age 60+) for someone to check in while delivering a hot, nutritious meal. 

Volunteers are needed to package up the food to get everything ready to go for the  Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers to get on the road and deliver the meals. Volunteer with a child, grandchild, friend, or spouse!

Food arrives cooked and ready to package. Volunteers help with portioning and packaging cold and hot foods. Other tasks include cleaning and sanitizing the packaging area before and after the food is packaged. 

Meals on Wheels are packaged Monday-Friday at our ADRC-CW Kitchen, 2700 Stewart Avenue. Volunteers arrive about 8:00am to get everything packaged up and ready to go by 9:30am-10:00am.

We are currently seeking assistance in the craft section at our store. The duties would be sorting, cleaning, pricing, and stocking crafting and sewing items. CC English is a new, innovative way to connect volunteer English teachers with students via online, one-on-one English classes using the Confidence and Connections curriculum developed by the non-profit, Intercambio Uniting Communities. CC English was launched in July 2020 with the goal of providing high-quality online English education and connecting individuals. We are an organization that provides English language education, tools, and training to participants to foster meaningful connections, increase cultural understanding, and instill confidence. We are looking for volunteers to teach online classes to adult English language learners for 90-minute sessions once or twice a week, a volunteering and learning opportunity that can be done in the comfort of one's home with just internet access and a computer/tablet/smartphone. Our goal is to connect English speakers wanting to make a difference with community members aspiring to learn English, regardless of location or other barriers of in-person classes. *CC English is a program of Intercambio, a nonprofit organization that has taught over 10,000 adult English learners over the last two decades.

What you DON'T need:

- You do not need any prior teaching experience.

- You do not need to speak a language other than English.

What you DO need:

- Availability to meet with a student online regularly. We recommend that you meet with your student twice a week for at least 60-90 minutes each meeting. MONEY COACH PROGRAM

The years leading up to high school graduation are critical to the formation of strong money management habits. Personal attention and guidance are the most effective ways to empower teens for a stable and successful financial future. Money Coach, specifically designed for teens from under-resourced communities, is our one-of-a-kind, semester-long financial mentoring program. Small groups of teens are matched with teams of volunteer coaches who guide them through in-depth financial literacy curriculum and provide one-on-one support as they put concepts into practice.

Money Coach is a multi-week program completed over a semester with high school juniors and seniors (Sept-Dec or Feb-May). Group sessions are held every other week, last 60-75-minutes, and focus on specific financial topics with interactive activities and discussion. One-on-one check ins (about 30 minutes each) are held on the weeks between the group sessions and allow for more in-depth focus on each teen's individual budget, expenses, and goals. As a volunteer, you'll mentor teens on their path to financial capability using well-designed curriculum and resources.

Money Coach is delivered in select high schools and community-based organizations in the Milwaukee area. Teens must be enrolled at one of these partners to be eligible to participate. The list of partners changes each semester, but has included: Riverside, Rufus King, Vincent, Golda Meir, North Division, James Madison, Hamilton, Washington, Reagan, South Division, St. Joan Antida, Messmer, St. Anthony, Bay View, Bradley Tech, Carmen (NW, SE, & S campuses), Teens Grow Greens, and PEARLS for Teen Girls.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

SecureFutures' Money Coach program is a hands-on financial coaching program delivered to a group of high school students by volunteer coaches. The program aims to provide a deeper understanding of financial concepts and hands-on goal-setting through a lesson plan that focuses on direct volunteer-to-student interaction. The primary role of all SecureFutures volunteers is to engage students in financial education lessons by asking questions, leading discussions, and sharing professional and life experience. There are two distinct volunteer roles in the Money Coach program.

The Group Coach volunteer engages and encourages participants and leads the group sessions. The sessions serve to educate participants on financial literacy and to guide them in the development of action plans to achieve financial needs and goals. The group sessions take place every other week for the length of the program (about 6 group sessions). All curriculum and materials are provided. We intend to hold the group sessions in person, but sites will determine their visitor policies as they relate to COVID 19 safety protocols. Groups are generally consist of about 12-18 students.

The One-on-One Coach volunteer engages and encourages participants and conducts one-on-one check-ins. The check-ins enable the coach and students to build meaningful and supportive relationships. These take place every other week while the program runs (about 5 one-on-one check ins) and will be conducted by phone or virtually. One-on-one coaches are expected to attend the group sessions, as well. One-on-one coaches will be assigned 3-4 students to mentor.

Coaches help students to develop action plans to achieve financial needs and goals and guide them if they are faced with obstacles while working toward those goals. Students practice healthy money management skills and are provided the opportunity to earn a scholarship as they meet program benchmarks.

Preferred Talents and Interests:
● Desire to work with teens who come from economically disadvantaged families and communities.
● Desire to build meaningful relationships with teens.
● Experience with public speaking, presenting, or teaching.
● Working knowledge of foundational personal finance concepts. (Training and curriculum will be provided.)
● Basic computer skills.

Training:

All volunteers complete a 3 hour, in-person training. The training covers cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and student engagement techniques, as well as all of the logistics and curriculum for the program.

What does a Companion do?

How does one learn how to be a Companion?

We have our new volunteers begin by attending a shift or two and simply observing. Then, we connect new volunteers with an established companion whom they will shadow for several shifts until the new volunteer feels ready to take the lead with neighbors.  We work collaboratively, so no companion ever flies completely solo.

We EmpowHER provides women and children with a safe, supportive community where participants are encouraged and empowered to engage in year-round programming, utilize community resources and embrace the best versions of themselves as valued community members.

Currently in need of assistants for Spring/Summer 2025!

Change students' lives by helping educate individuals in English as a Second Language! The CMC offers free ESL classes open to all adults who want to attend, taught by volunteer teachers. Under the guidance of volunteer teachers, ESL Assistants work with students one-on-one or in small groups. No previous teaching or tutoring experience required, though prior experience is helpful.

Classes are Monday-Thursday (Beginner M,T, & W 11-12:30, Intermediate T & Th 10-11:30 at CMC Beld St location, Beginner class M & W 6-7:30pm at CMC Fitchburg location), volunteering a minimum of one day a week required. 

Responsibilities include going over workbook exercises, practicing conversation and spelling, and working on grammar. ESL assistants are crucial in making sure students are getting the attention that they need to succeed. ESL assistants work with people from many different language, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, so volunteers learn new things in class too!

Requirements: Strong English skills are necessary. Prior educational/teaching experience is not required, but previous experience is helpful. A background check and online abuse-prevention training are required. 

Position summary:

Aljirani Madison (from the Swahili “jirani - neighbor” and Arabic “aljar - neighbor”) is a 6-month long volunteering program that pairs a companion or small group of companions with a refugee or refugee family to form an Aljirani Madison Group. Partner with a local refugee family to provide a warm welcome, companionship, and practical help. You will work with your partner to aid them in reaching their goals agreed upon in advance by your new partner and their JSS case manager. Potential goals may include developing English or financial literacy skills, career development, navigating public transportation, or getting to know the Madison community. You will play a key role in the successful resettlement of newly arrived refugees in the Madison community. Through your work and partnership in the Aljirani Madison program you will build a shared sense of community solidarity while ensuring that community newcomers are able to become self-sufficient.

Potential activities:

Note: We are currently encouraging volunteers and their Aljirani Madison partners to have a conversation around comfort levels with resuming in-person activities. In-person meetings following CDC guidelines are generally preferred for most clients, particularly those with digital literacy barriers.

Time commitment:

At least two hours per week for a period of 6-months. Note: At the 6 month mark, the Refugee Support Programs Coordinator will inform you that the formal volunteer period has concluded. It will be your decision on how to end the relationship with your partner and/or how to transition into an informal relationship or friendship. Please note that after the formal period ends, JSS will no longer provide volunteer support.

Location:

Since newcomers live all around Madison, you may not be able to count on being paired with someone who lives within walking distance of your residence. Take advantage of the Madison bus system and bike trails and introduce your companion to these transportation options too. When refugees first arrive most of them do not have a car or driver’s license.

Supervision:

The Aljirani Madison volunteer will provide basic weekly reports on meetings and have periodic check ins with the program coordinator to receive support and guidance.

The dedicated volunteers who form the Clean Team meet every Thursday afternoon at the Way Forward distribution center to make the food pantry and clothing center shine for our guests and to maintain best practices for health and safety.

The Volunteer Café Attendant is the friendly face and ambassador of first impressions for those who visit the Grounded Café at the ADRC.

For many ADRC visitors they will be the first person to make them feel welcome while experiencing outstanding customer service. This café attendant will work as part of a “café team” of volunteers to provide fresh coffee, bakery and other items to the general public, ADRC consumers, and downtown neighbors. 

Positions available are barista, cook, food prep, dishes, and cleaning tables.

Just outside of the downtown area is the Lacrosse Regional Airport.  The USO offers a great way to volunteer and still get homework done. Join the airport team and staff the USO for military traveling to and from the area for school, training, and leisure.  This quiet location is perfect for someone who needs volunteer credit but also needs time to study. You can do both at the USO! 

 Duty Shift Volunteer - This location is open year-round and serves the population that trains at Fort McCoy.  This position is for those 16+ who are available for at least 2 hours a week. The Center Representative Volunteer will assist with day-to-day operations, programs, events, and activities of a USO center.

Volunteers are needed to support the Catholic Charities Food Pantry and Clothing Closet located at 508 5th Avenue South in La Crosse. Duties may include accepting donated items, sorting, organizing, cleaning, stocking shelves, and assisting clients.

Morning shifts are currently available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Shift flexibility is possible based on a volunteer’s availability. If you have a desire to serve those in our community who are most in need, please consider volunteering with Catholic Charities of La Crosse.

We have a beautiful collection of historic clothing that dates back to the late 1800's. Here is how you can help. We could use some supplies for Collections.  

Polyester quilt batting (not wool or cotton, not loose fiberfill) is needed to wrap padded hangers for the clothing collection.  We could also use white or off-white sheets (cotton or cotton/polyester blend) or lengths of white or off-white woven fabric (cotton or cotton/polyester blend) - these we use to make garment bags and hanger covers.

GiGi's Playhouse is a non-profit providing free educational and therapeutic programing to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Students studying education, OT, PT, even physical fitness or music would fit.  Those in speech and communication disorders would be a great fit for fall 2021 as we will be doing a one-on-one literacy pilot program.

With GiGi's Playhouse being a non-profit serving families with a Down syndrome diagnosis and related disabilities outreach is extremely important!  Our Outreach Committee meets twice a month (Sunday 7-8pm).  We work out details for connecting with schools, therapy centers, medical professionals, local businesses, and other community organizations to spread awareness of the services of GiGi's Playhouse.  This committee is also responsible for smaller family events at the Playhouse like Easter and Christmas parties.

We are in need of volunteers to help us pack traditional tribal foods into boxes every other Wednesday beginning May 15th until December 4th. The goal of this project is to distribute about 2000 after each pack. Each box will contain perishable Indigenously sourced food items The packing will take place on-site at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in Appleton. 

Volunteers will meet at the Appleton Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin warehouse no later than 8:00am for the first shift that runs until 10:45am, or 11:30am for the second that runs until 2:15pm. At the start time, we will walk through what is being packed that day, and the different needs and tasks to be accomplished.

GOAL OF THE AMERICORPS VISTA PLACEMENT:

Stepping Stones of Dunn County has three major focus areas: Food Pantry, Emergency Shelter and Volunteer Services. We are the primary service-provider for the food insecure and homeless in Menomonie and Dunn County, Wisconsin.
We have identified several expansion areas including increasing outreach and services to underserved populations—with a focus on rural communities, members of the Hmong community and members of the Hispanic community.
• Rural Communities—Two-thirds of the population of Dunn County lives outside of the city of Menomonie but, as the population center, Menomonie currently receives the majority of the programing and funding for the county.
• The Hmong Community—As the largest minority population in the county, there is not only increased food insecurity and poverty, but also cultural and structural barriers to services.
• The Hispanic Community—As the fastest-growing minority population in the county, the need for services is increasing year-over-year. In addition to structural barriers, there are trust issues with government and non-government service agencies.
Within a broader effort of building capacity to provide for the underserved in Dunn County, the aim of the VISTA position will be to establish community relationships, assess areas of need, and build structures for communication that will sustain beyond the year-term of the placement.
BENEFITS OF SERVICE:
The member will benefit from their experience developing an outreach campaign for underserved populations. The member will serve with a small team of dedicated individuals to expand our capacity for service. Being that Stepping Stones of Dunn County provides food, shelter and volunteer services, the breadth of experience will be applicable to many career directions in the non-profit sector, or human services. Experience in establishing contacts in underserved populations, community engagement, qualitative and quantitative need assessment, program evaluation and improvement, and communications will improve not only the community, but the capabilities of the VISTA member as well.
AMERICORPS VISTA POSITION OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES:
Objective One—proactively and respectfully establish relationships between Stepping Stones and community leaders, representatives and agencies of underserved populations. (8/2/2021 – 6/1/2022)—Member Activities:

Tired of sitting at home, without community interactions? Do you want a volunteer position that is rewarding every time you donate your time? Good News Project is looking for volunteers who can commit at least a ½ day per week. Can't commit every week? We understand! We just ask for a week's notice when volunteers need to take time off for vacations, personal time or just watching the grandkids.  

This position will give you an opportunity to work one on one with people in our community that need health equipment. No computer skills? No problem! We look for people who enjoy helping others. Some of the tasks may include answer phones, fill in paperwork, & greet guests. Other small duties may be assigned during down time. If you are comfortable working on computers, then we will put your skills to work. This position is really for anyone who enjoys talking to other people.

This program provides rides for older adults who have no other transportation available to medical or medically related appointments. This is a much needed service in our rural community to assist people who need transportation to clinics or other healthcare settings.  

Volunteers are able to determine the frequency of rides.  Flexibility is key, as the length of appointments may vary. Rides may be one way or both ways.

DeForest Area Community & Senior Center coordinates the rides locally, through a partnership with RSVP's Driver Escorts. RSVP provides drivers with several kinds of support. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement, free excess insurance while on assignment, "disabled cards" from Wisconsin Motor Vehicle for passengers with difficulty walking, a Madison map to find medical facilities, Volunteer Driver Escort badge and other things dependent on the assignment.

RESTRICTIONS: Clear driving record and dependable car are required as is registration with RSVP.  

New safety protocols are in place due to COVID. Mask must be worn by both the passenger and driver at all times. All Drivers are required to be vaccinated. 

Position Description:

We are looking for dedicated individuals to collect donated food items from various locations, including Metro Market, Festival, Starbucks and St. Michael's Hospital. This role is crucial in supporting our mission to help those in need.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a firm commitment to the Mission of the Salvation Army, a valid driver's license, and the ability to interface with staff. Good people skills are essential, and you must be approved as a Salvation Army driver to use the company vehicle.

Hours Needed:

We are seeking volunteers on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Occasionally, the shift may extend until 10:00 a.m. when we receive larger donations that require additional time.

Physical Requirements:

You should be able to lift boxes and other items up to 20 lbs. 

Atmosphere: 

This position involves working in a shelter environment, providing support to those facing homelessness and hard times.

Deliver more than just a warm meal! The Aging & Disability Resource Center of La Crosse County is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to seniors. Shifts/routes are currently available at our County building (4th & Vine) and the Southside Neighborhood Center (6th & Hood St). Each route takes approximately 30minutes to 1 hr to deliver; roughly 10:15am to 11:30am and average 10 miles (mileage reimbursement available).

**Looking for ongoing commitment however flexible with schedule. For example, you may sign up to deliver 1-2 days a week, every other week (i.e., every 1st/3rd Monday of month) or once a month (i.e., every 2nd Thursday of the month).

Front Entrance Ambassador -Ambassadors will assist with helping patients/visitors find their way to their appointments throughout the hospital.  You will greet patients at the front entrances, wheelchair assisting, and walking the patient to the appropriate area for his/her care.

Do you love local history? The Friends of the Grignon Mansion are looking for dedicated, dependable tour guides to tell the story of the Grignon family and their impact on the Fox River Valley Region. At this time, the Mansion is open for guided tours the first and third weekend of month (Saturdays and Sundays) from 10 AM until 4 PM for guided tours. We have several other volunteer opportunities available as well, including gardening, lawn care, gift shop cashier, delivering school tours, and more! 

The Friends of the Grignon Mansion are in need of cashiers to help in the gift shop (indoors) and take admissions at the front door (outdoors)! We use a combination of traditional cash registers and touch screen tablets for our simple, easy to learn, Point of Sale system. Shifts are either 3 or 6 hours and you get to interact with other volunteers and visitors!

Here at The Grand, the goal of our volunteers is to be attentive hosts who help patrons to have a pleasant and comfortable experience by being friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and eager to meet their needs.

The City of Beaver Dam Community Activities & Services Department is located at The Watermark, a community center. The purpose of the Welcome Desk Assistant is to greet all patrons with a smile and be the first impression of The Watermark. Volunteers will assist with participant check-in, answer the phone, perform light office tasks and computer work, handle small cash transactions and ensure program coordinators have their supplies.

The Welcome Desk is staffed Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. We offer two shifts, 8am-Noon and Noon-4pm. Volunteers can choose their shift and the day of the week they would like to work.
