Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County (RTSC) is seeking a Home Repair Volunteer to assist with home repair projects for our low-income homeowner clients. The Project Volunteer will work with other volunteers under the direction of a Project Lead to complete various handyman-level home repair projects. The Project Volunteer plays an important role in enabling our clients to continue to live in a safe, warm, and dry home. This volunteer position is ideal for individuals who have some home repair experience and are looking for ways to improve their skills while giving back to the community, with no long-term time commitment.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Previous experience with home repairs, construction, or related trades
* Willingness and ability to learn new home repair skills
* Ability to work within a group to accomplish assigned tasks
* Ability to perform tasks as required by the nature of home repair work
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-project Activities

* Respond to text/email requests from the RTSC Team Lead for volunteer support on a specific project. As a volunteer, you are free to accept or reject these requests at your discretion.
* Upon request, provide the Team Lead with an estimate of time and materials needed to complete assigned tasks.
* Coordinate with other team members to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.

Project Day

* Arrive at the client’s home on time and appropriately dressed for the tasks to be performed. In general, all volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes, an RTSC tee-shirt (provided), and other “work-type” clothing.
* Working with other volunteer team members, complete assigned tasks to the best of the team’s ability
* Follow all safety protocols; help monitor work area for potential hazards
* Help keep the work area clean and free of construction debris
* Ask for assistance and/or technical guidance when needed
* Ensure completed work meets professional standards and client expectations to the best of your ability

Administrative

* Notify the Project Lead of all hours worked.
* Notify RTSC or the Project Lead if you no longer wish to volunteer, or conversely, if you wish to take a more active role
* Participate in occasional team meetings as required

The Home Repair Volunteer is a part-time, on-call role, and each Project Volunteer maintains a significant level of control over their own schedule and work hours. Projects are typically structured to require a single four to six-hour day or less. Teams perform most projects on weekdays and during daytime hours. Most projects can be completed in a single day, but more complex projects may occasionally require additional time.

* Conduct site visits to evaluate repair needs, take measurements, develop plans, and determine required tools and materials
* Develop a project plan (task list, materials required, and budget estimate).
* Coordinate with the homeowner to ensure there is no misunderstanding about the work to be performed
* Coordinate with other RTSC personnel to obtain the necessary tools, materials, and labor

Project Day Leadership

* Serve as the primary RTSC representative on project days, overseeing all on-site activities
* Obtain a signed Homeowner Agreement from the homeowner prior to commencing any work
* Manage and support volunteers, assigning tasks by aptitude/abilities/interests, and ensuring volunteers have what they need to be successful
* Ensure completed work meets professional standards and client expectations
* Promote safe work practices and monitor the work site for potential hazards
* Document project outcomes, including before-and-after photos, volunteer hours, project cost, and materials used

Administrative

* Maintain accurate records of project activities, including volunteer participation, expenses, and project outcomes.
* Assist with budget tracking, expense reporting, and materials management.
* Participate in occasional team meetings as required

Halloween time at Heritage Hill is a big one! We are seeking volunteers to help put out pumpkins, hay bales, and cornstalks through out the park prior our trick or treating event!

We're looking for volunteers to help create captivating social media content that is relevant to our mission and projects! As a member of our Communications Team, you would work closely with the team lead who will give you content assignments and ideas to keep us in our followers' feeds, portraying us in a positive light, entertaining, informing, educating, and/or inspiring them. We strive to post 3-5 times a week with a variety of content formats: photos, graphics, and videos, but this can change depending on your availability! Experience editing short-form video and creating graphics is a plus, but not required. The time commitment for this role is flexible and ongoing. We encourage you to attend our events to capture content, some of which will occur on evenings and weekends.

Key responsibilities will include: 

One hour per week minimum, 3 month commitment, monthly scheduling, select Tues or Thurs, 4pm or 5pm sessions. Background check and Application required.

The Adaptive Riding Group program invites youth who have a unique physical or mental health diagnosis such as multiple sclerosis, autism, anxiety or depression. By riding on the horse, participants can build core strength, communication skills, and social skills. Participants benefit from emotional enrichment of therapeutic riding and equine-assisted learning.

Volunteers/students walk alongside the horse and rider to give them physical stability and verbal encouragement. Volunteers must be emotionally aware and situationally aware of their surroundings to contribute to a healthy and safe therapeutic environment.

·      Gain an understanding of the horse-human connection and the benefit of adaptive riding.

·      Gain comfort in relating to others with special needs.

·      Experience the benefit of encouraging others and see progress in their rider.

·      Learn individual roles and responsibilities within the team.

·      Practice healthy boundaries, self-awareness, and situational awareness.

·      Walk for 50 minutes in deep sand, and jog/run for short periods of time

We are in need of light grounds maintenance, primarily pulling weeds during the summer months.  

We serve a multitude of people in our community and one of the families is Spanish speaking with two children in our equine assisted therapy program. We need a translator to come at least once per month, more would be great, on Thursdays from 5-6 PM when the family is here. The instructor and team would like to let the family know how their session went and have conversations as needed. We would also like this person to review our documents that go out to families once we convert them to Spanish.

Volunteers will help our teachers in the elementary classroom with the lesson, art activities, or any other planned activity. Each volunteer must apply on our website and be background checked.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County is piloting a new evidence-based program, called Bingocize®, and need an exercise leader/Bingo-caller to help make it happen!  The leader will be expected to travel throughout Portage County for pop-up workshops in addition to the events at Lincoln Center.

Bingocize® is a fun, 10-week program that combines exercise and health education with the familiar game of Bingo. The class meets twice a week for 45 - 60 minutes to get some activity in, socialize, learn, and win prizes.

We are thrilled to host an enchanting evening at Heritage Hill Historical Park this Halloween season! Step back in time as our park transforms into a whimsical and slightly eerie wonderland for trick-or-treaters of all ages.

Each year, Heritage Hills annual trick or treating events sees around 1000 attendees, making it our largest attended one day event. We kindly ask our volunteers to provide bags of candy if they are able.

As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a magical experience for our guests. Children in costumes will wander through the park, eagerly collecting treats from volunteers like yourself at our various historical buildings!  You'll not only help preserve our historical village's charm but also create lasting memories for families in our community. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in history while celebrating the spirit of Halloween in a unique setting.  

PLEASE INDICATE IN WHICH AREA YOU WOULD PREFER TO VOLUNTEER. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO ASSIGN YOU TO THESE POSITONS, BUT NO GUARENTEES.

Hand out candy and other treats to the trick-or-treaters at the various historic buildings around our park!  You will be stationed at one historic building to hand out candy to the many kids! There are 26 historic buildings, so we are seeking over 50 volunteers for this position. 

PARK FLOATER: 

Shift Option 1: 9:00am -12:00pm (4 hour shift)

Shift Option 2: 12:00pm-4:00pm (4 hour shift)

Direct guests to event, restock supplies as needed, collect candy wrappers, and basically help keep the park looking its best!

The Rehab Unit provides specialized medical care that focuses on providing care that supports and fosters patients regaining independence.

Join us for the Center for Grieving Children's Family Nights - a safe, healing space for kids and their families. We're looking for compassionate volunteers to help create connection, comfort, and community. Our Family Nights are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 6pm to approximately 8pm. Dinner will also be served. The location changes each Family Night to reflect the activity of that evening. Your presence can mean the world.

Blue Lotus is almost fully booked for the summer with groups who serve people with disabilities, seniors, youth placed at-risk, and many others who have life challenges. Our guests come seven days a week, mornings and evenings.

Tax Aide is looking for volunteers for the 2025 tax preparation season (February through mid-April 2026). 

Volunteers work at one or more of our 10 local NE Wisconsin sites to prepare taxes for residents, may of whom are low- to medium-income and 50+ years of age.  Volunteers assist taxpayers in identifying tax forms and documents needed to prepare returns and use IRS-certified and encrypted software to enter taxpayer data to create Federal and state returns.  After completion, a Tax-Aide volunteer explains the returns to the taxpayer.  Tax preparation is done in a group environment.  

Volunteers acquire tax knowledge by attending local Tax-Aide training classes (held in December and January) and through self-study. All volunteers are required to take and pass several certification tests administered through the IRS and Tax-Aide.

Typically, volunteers work two days per week (5-6 hours per day) during the tax season (February through mid-April), in addition to their training hours before the filing season.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide reimburses volunteers for mileage for tax preparation and training. 

Leadership opportunities are available for those interested.   

Volunteers are needed to help with greeting and help with the pre-movie activities.
