Volunteer: Tour GuideDo you love history, science, and art exhibits and sharing your enthusiasm for these subjects with kids? The museum is looking for volunteers to lead school groups through the exhibits. As a tour guide, you'll be responsible for leading groups of up to 25 students and their teachers/chaperones through the exhibits for 45-60 minutes. Successful volunteers don't need to be experts on everything in the museum; we'll teach you everything you need to know. What is more important is enthusiasm, the ability to think on your feet when a kid asks a whacky question, and your ability to make the museum fun and entertaining. Volunteers train by shadowing experienced guides, spending time exploring the exhibits on their own, and when they're ready, by doing a tag-team tour with an experienced guide. The schedule is variable, but our volunteers typically lead between 2 and 5 tours each month, and tours are usually weekdays with most being in the mornings. The first step is to fill out an application, which can be found at: https://www.nevillepublicmuseum.org/support/volunteer/ We will reach out to selected applicants for a short interview, and all Brown County volunteers must pass a background check.

Volunteer: Volunteer First ResponderWe are a volunteer group in West Salem, WI that provides EMS coverage for the Village of West Salem, Town of Barre, and Town of Hamilton. We have been providing this service since 1986. We respond to medical calls as needed, when paged out, 24/7/365. We average about 1.5 calls/day. We are looking for volunteers that are in the medical field, who would be interested in getting volunteer hours while helping the community. If you are certified as a first responder, EMT, paramedic, nurse, doctor, or any similar license we want you to join our team! This is a great way to get some hands on experience and see what the real world has to offer and gets you that experience you need for your career path. If you do not have any certifications, you are still able to do our ride along program. This involves riding along to the calls, and observing what we do, but you would not be able to be hands on. This is a good way to find out if this field is for you. There is no set schedule to follow. You are able to put yourself on call, when you are able. All we ask is you try and put in 48 hours a month. Responding to an emergency medical call requires a fast response. Because of this, you would be required to be in West Salem so you can get to the station in a timely manner. We do offer college students the ability to spend the day/night at the station. A great time to get homework and studying done. We have a full bathroom, and even a washing machine and dryer. If you are interested or have any other questions, please contact us. We need your help!

Volunteer: Help translate Refugee Parent Education Videos in your language! Virtual OpportunityU.S. Volunteers only, please Parents from refugee and immigrant families in the US want the best Help translate Refugee Parent Education Videos in your language for their children and they work hard to provide their children with every opportunity to succeed. However, refugee and immigrant parents carry the extra stress of parenting in a new culture, while also navigating complex systems in a new country and language they might not feel confident in. Please note that we do not work with volunteers who live outside of the U.S., as knowledge of local culture and resources are an important part of the role. To best support parents, Catholic Charities has a series of parenting videos in refugee languages about topics that are important to parents from refugee and immigrant communities. These short, practical YouTube videos offer accessible parenting education in 10 languages. Our YouTube channel has over 2,600 subscribers who actively watch the content we release on parenting, updates to immigration law, and education. How you can help You can help Catholic Charities make culturally and linguistically appropriate videos by volunteering your critical language skills! We need volunteers to translate text (on PowerPoints or short scripts) and/or record voice over videos like this in refugee languages. Check out our videos on Parent Teacher Conferences and Your Health Care Options to see what videos are like. The videos are approximately 3-7 minutes in English with 7 or fewer PowerPoint slides. Video text is usually short phrases related to daily life in the US accompanied by images. We create the PowerPoint content with simple scripts for ease of translation. We can train you in our simple process to record short videos in your own home or you can come to our office to record. If needed, our Community Educator will even join you via zoom to record together for the first video(s) to help you get started. CC will edit the recordings (bloopers happen!) and post online. Skills/ Experience Fluency in your language and English Parent Video Language Needs (bold are priority) Pashto, Dari, Ukrainian, Rohingya, Karen, Hakha Chin, Somali, Malay, Burmese, Swahili, Spanish, Arabic. No certifications are required, but experience interpreting or translating in the community Can work independently; however, also willing to ask questions as needed Must be 18 years old to volunteerTechnology & Space Ability to use Google Slides and Zoom (create free accounts) Have access to a computer and reliable internet if recording at home Have a quiet space to record without background noise or willing to record at our officeTime Commitment 2-8 hours per month, ideally 1-3 videos We work with your schedule- Volunteers wanting to record in our office must be available Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm, but those recording or translating at home can do so at any timeTraining Volunteers will receive training before they begin on how to access materials. If recording, volunteers will learn how to record voice over PowerPoint videos using zoom, how to upload recordings to our shared Google Drive, and general best practices for recording. The Impact While refugee and immigrant parents are passionate about their children’s education, many believe they cannot effectively help their children with homework or in other areas because they grew up in a different educational system and/or struggle with English themselves. These videos allow parents to learn the skills they need to parent in the US on their own schedule without the added burden of transportation to a class or childcare. While some videos have Milwaukee specific content, most are general enough to support refugee and immigrant parents across the US. All of our programs are free to our clients, and we couldn’t provide the level of service we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers. We believe the connections between our volunteers and program participants make our communities stronger and more vibrant.
