Volunteer: Mentor - Community Based Program - Portage CountyBecome a Mentor! In our Community-Based Mentoring Program, a mentor will give a Little the invaluable gift of being a caring and consistent adult friend to them. By simply changing the perspective of their world, you can literally start changing their life. This can happen while giving just a few hours of your time each month. It's really pretty simple - by doing everyday activities with a child, you can make a BIG difference in the life of a local child. In the Community-Based Mentoring Program, matches between the Big and Little meet in the community each week at a time convenient for both the volunteer and the child. No cost/low cost activities are encouraged - after all, it is about spending time together, not spending money. Some activity ideas are playing catch at a park, riding bikes, doing arts and crafts or leaning a new skill together.

Volunteer: Neighborhood Association VolunteerInterested in meeting neighbors? How about playing an active role in your neighborhood? Interested in joining an existing association or starting one, if not already established, to work on priorities you and your neighbors determine are important? Here's your opportunity! First a little bit about what a Neighborhood Association is: quite simply we define it as neighbors living within a designated area of the City who are concerned about issues affecting their neighborhood and who have decided to work together to protect and ensure a better social, economic, and business climate in their Neighborhood. Neighborhood Associations act as a “voice” for the neighborhood residents, a somewhat official link to local government and the larger community. Many neighborhoods find that by banding together and forming a Neighborhood Association, they are better able to meet the collective needs of the Neighborhood. Since 1996, with Green Bay Neighborhood's assistance, Neighborhood Associations have produced projects that: Launched programs to improve neighborhood safety. Provided neighborhood residents with leadership training opportunities. Enhanced the community image by beautifying elements in Green Bay neighborhoods. Educated residents on zoning issues and new developments that impact your area of the city. Created, planned, and facilitated neighborhood events and activities for neighbors to connect. Placed public art pieces in neighborhoods.Sounds like something you'd be interested in? If you'd like to get connected with an existing Neighborhood Association, please contact Green Bay Neighborhood's Lead Staff and Community Outreach Coordinator, Vicki at vicki@gbneighborhoods.org or call 920-593-3716. If you'd like to explore organizing a new Neighborhood Association or reactivating one that has become dormant, contact the City of Green Bay's Neighborhood Support Specialist, Toni Loch toni.Loch@greenbaywi.gov or call 920-448-3350. Volunteer: Tour GuideDo you love history, science, and art exhibits and sharing your enthusiasm for these subjects with kids? The museum is looking for volunteers to lead school groups through the exhibits. As a tour guide, you'll be responsible for leading groups of up to 25 students and their teachers/chaperones through the exhibits for 45-60 minutes. Successful volunteers don't need to be experts on everything in the museum; we'll teach you everything you need to know. What is more important is enthusiasm, the ability to think on your feet when a kid asks a whacky question, and your ability to make the museum fun and entertaining. Volunteers train by shadowing experienced guides, spending time exploring the exhibits on their own, and when they're ready, by doing a tag-team tour with an experienced guide. The schedule is variable, but our volunteers typically lead between 2 and 5 tours each month, and tours are usually weekdays with most being in the mornings. The first step is to fill out an application, which can be found at: https://www.nevillepublicmuseum.org/support/volunteer/ We will reach out to selected applicants for a short interview, and all Brown County volunteers must pass a background check.

Volunteer: Volunteer First ResponderWe are a volunteer group in West Salem, WI that provides EMS coverage for the Village of West Salem, Town of Barre, and Town of Hamilton. We have been providing this service since 1986. We respond to medical calls as needed, when paged out, 24/7/365. We average about 1.5 calls/day. We are looking for volunteers that are in the medical field, who would be interested in getting volunteer hours while helping the community. If you are certified as a first responder, EMT, paramedic, nurse, doctor, or any similar license we want you to join our team! This is a great way to get some hands on experience and see what the real world has to offer and gets you that experience you need for your career path. If you do not have any certifications, you are still able to do our ride along program. This involves riding along to the calls, and observing what we do, but you would not be able to be hands on. This is a good way to find out if this field is for you. There is no set schedule to follow. You are able to put yourself on call, when you are able. All we ask is you try and put in 48 hours a month. Responding to an emergency medical call requires a fast response. Because of this, you would be required to be in West Salem so you can get to the station in a timely manner. We do offer college students the ability to spend the day/night at the station. A great time to get homework and studying done. We have a full bathroom, and even a washing machine and dryer. If you are interested or have any other questions, please contact us. We need your help!
