Volunteer: Volunteer mentorsWe are privileged to serve kids aged 5-18 and their families (foster, adoptive, or biological) who are experiencing or have a history of crises/trauma. Hurting people need hope and the security of healthy relationships that provide safety and trust. Healing from the inside out can begin within the context of a caring and safe relationship. Pairing kids with a trained mentor and a horse with its own story can help spur the healing process. We are seeking dedicated mentors to join our volunteer mentor team. Since the Covid-19 pandemic our client base has risen to the point that we are creating a waiting list for youth in need. Mentors are needed to get these kids into our programming. We are a faith-based organization and provide services to women and youth located in Calumet, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Southern Brown, Winnebago, and Monroe counties. Please consider dedicating some time to an area youth, your contribution will be life changing. Volunteer: TV show production crewmembers needed!!If you would be interested in learning the basics of how a TV show is put together, this volunteer opportunity is for you!! Volunteers do not need to have any experience. We will provide all training. Crewmembers will work in rotating positions, as they become trained and are comfortable, in a variety of areas on the production of a cable access TV show, also shown on YouTube, and other social media sites. Positions will include camera person, floor director, audio, graphics, and eventually, director. We tape a new show twice monthly (the first and third Thursdays of each month). This may vary periodically, but not very often. Crewmembers arrive at the studio (located in the Oshkosh City Hall building) at 5:30pm and we usually wrap up about 7:30pm. If we have a large enough number of volunteers, crewmembers would not necessarily need to "work" both Thursdays in a month. But our crew currently works both Thursdays each month. Each week's show covers a different topic. We cover anything and everything that affects or would be of interest to people in the Oshkosh area. This includes: local politics and government; pet therapy and support dogs; local animal shelter happenings; fire safety and prevention; police department issues; poverty; affordable housing; United Way; the Oshkosh Public Library and Oshkosh Public Museum; veterans issues; dementia; breast cancer awareness; the local Farmers Market; food co-op store; etc. This show has been on-the-air since 2002 and for a complete list of the various topics we've covered and to watch any of our past shows, we would encourage you to search for Eye on Oshkosh on YouTube.com. We have our own YouTube channel and it houses all the shows we've done over the years. As a crewmember, you will not only get to learn basics of TV production and have your name on the credits at the end of the show, but you will get to learn a lot of new things that our guests talk about, and meet a lot of new people, many of whom are great connections to have. We would invite you to contact us at 920-209-7387 OR Cheryl.Hentz@gmail.com OR EyeOnOshkosh@gmail.com to learn more. Volunteer: Community Event VolunteerWhatever the Community Event is, the Marathon County Historical Society is there. Our outreach to educate people on the importance of our past goes beyond our exhibits and the Yawkey House Museum. We attend many events like Harvest Fest, Winter Fest, Children's Fest, YMCA Healthy Kids Day, NTC STEM Event, Pride Fest, Dairy Breakfast, WI Valley Fair Booth, Ginseng Festival, World Culture Day and much more. What will this volunteer do? If it's a family/children event we will have a table/booth/tent set up with old-fashioned games, crafts and coloring sheets. If it's an event like the Fair, Ginseng Festival, or World Culture's Day, we'll have an historical display of some kind. This volunteer mans the table/booth and helps with the activity. We have information about the historical society and upcoming events available for attendees to take with them. It is very easy and fun interacting with the community. Please let us know if this is something you are interested in and thank you so much for your time. Our volunteers are the best! Volunteer: Milwaukee & Waukesha Children's Vision ScreenersBecome a Certified Children's Vision Screener! Help us identify children with potential vision problems and set them on the road to healthy vision through children's vision screenings in your community. Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin's mission is to prevent blindness and preserve sight in Wisconsin communities. We envision a Wisconsin where everyone enjoys a lifetime of healthy vision and we work toward this goal by providing free, direct sight-saving services, such as vision screenings, throughout the state. Volunteers help with vision screenings at schools and childcare centers throughout greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County that otherwise do not have the capacity to screen the children at their schools and centers. All volunteers are required to attend a Prevent Blindness Wisconsin sponsored Children's Vision Screener Training. The training will go over how to vision screen school-age and preschool age children and the last step is to attend a short virtual volunteer orientation. The children’s vision screening certification is good for 3 years. No previous experience with health care or vision screenings is necessary. This is an opportunity for individual adults, teens and small groups (maximum size of 5). Volunteers are required to complete and pass a background check and Children’s Vision Screener Training before volunteering. To sign up for our online training, please email Breanna at breanna@pbwi.org for the sign-up link. Time commitment: Vision screenings typically take place on weekday mornings. Depending on classroom size, screenings take between 1 and 3 hours. Vision screenings start in September and go through May. Please contact Breanna Reckamp, Director of Operations, at breanna@pbwi.org or (414) 765-0505 to learn more and to sign up for a vision screener training.
