Prepare Books for Blind Dates

Expired

Description

Help Literacy Services prepare hundreds of books to be given away throughout the community to spread awareness about our services and the educational needs of our neighbors.

Literacy Services receives all sorts of donated books. To build interest and intrigue around the books we plan to gift to the community, we’re using a fun concept popular with booksellers and libraries called, “Blind Date with a Book.” Before distribution, each novel will be wrapped in brown paper, adorned with ribbon, and inscribed with a few words that indicate the contents. This is where we need your help!

Volunteers will create a team of book researchers or a team of book wrappers. Researchers will insert informational bookmarks into the books and take to the internet on provided laptops to compile brief descriptions of individual stories. Book wrappers will write those summaries on the exterior of the books after they have wrapped them in their paper disguise. As the wrapped books are found around town, they will bring smiles to faces, breed excitement about reading, and spread awareness about the prevalence of illiteracy in our community.

The Book wrapping will be held on the following dates:

Please comment on which date you are interested in attending and send any questions to volunteer@literacyservices.org.
