If you'd like to coach and help people improve their financial stability, serve as an asset building coach for our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The VITA program provides free income tax preparation services for low income individuals and families.
As an asset building coach, you'll meet with clients to educate them on how to read their credit reports, explain the benefits of saving part of their tax refund, and connect them to needed community resources. Shifts available weekday mornings, weeknights, and Saturdays.
Requirements:
- Friendly, good communicator, likes to help people
- Basic computer skills to generate credit reports
- Volunteer a 3 hour shift per week, for a minimum of 4 weeks. Greatest need is from last week in January to second week in March.
- Complete required training.
- Bi-lingual is helpful, but NOT required.
Description
- Based on client interest/need survey, connect clients to asset building opportunities and community resources (resource guide and handouts are provided)
- Generate a Credit Report using TransUnion software
- Provide 1 on 1 coaching to clients on
- Meaning and significance of the credit score
- Purpose of each major section of the credit report
- Issues to look for on a credit report
- Steps to resolve credit report issues
- Steps to build credit if client doesn’t have a credit score
- Explain the benefits of saving part or all of the client’s tax refund and help client make a decision on how much to save
- Maintain confidentiality of client information
