Advocacy Training:

We are currently looking for community members, students, and survivors who are interested in attending our 40+ hour Advocacy Training to be offered in late spring/early summer 2017.  Interested persons will need to complete an application and attend an initial interview.  

Advocacy Training covers a variety of topics related to domestic violence, sexual violence, and child abuse. Examples of topics covered include intersectionality; gender and LGBTQ; impact of violence; protective orders; trafficking of women and children; rape culture; and compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and self care.

Responsibilities of Advocates:

Advocates will make a 12 month commitment to the crisis line.

Advocates will be on call a minimum of 3 nights per month including a 24 hour weekend shift.  All advocates will be expected to serve a minimum of one weekend every 2 months.

Advocates will uphold the mission of BCFR, which is “Bluff Country Family Resources provides community education and non-judgmental, confidential crisis intervention, advocacy, support and resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and homelessness.”

BCFR Responsibilities to Advocates:

BCFR will provide Advocates with an initial 4o+ hour training.

BCFR’s Adult Program Coordinator will provide 24 hour support to Advocates. Other staff members will also be available as needed.

BCFR will provide Advocates ongoing opportunities for training and learning.

BCFR will support Advocates to achieve their personal goals regarding their advocacy and volunteering.

BCFR has DVDs, curricula, and other materials available for Advocates to enhance their advocacy skills.
