General Info:
- The event is Saturday, Oct 29th, 2022.
- Volunteer check in begins at 5PM in the shelter, to the right of the fireplace. You may park in the grass between the parking lot and the chapel. (Please be sure to pull completely off the exit road; the exit road doubles as an emergency route.)
- The last hike of the evening begins at 8:30 p.m.
- We are a rain or shine event! Please plan accordingly.
- Cell and internet service in the valley can be spotty, but if you log in to our guest wifi (no password needed), you should be able to have service in the Homestead.
Here's what to expect!
- You’ll be taking a group of visitors through a pre-marked trail. Please stick to this one trail! It will be dark and we don’t want anyone getting lost.
- If you check in right at 5 p.m., or perhaps a bit before 5, you should have time to walk it once on your own. It would be wise to do this.
- Dress appropriately! Things to remember with this:
- You are outdoors. In the dark. It gets cold when you’re outdoors in the dark.
- Rain is not predicted at this time, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be damp and/or wet.
- More than 1,300 visitors will hike this trail over the three day event; the trail will get muddy and slippery with that kind of traffic. We’ll have maintenance on the trail take place each day, but know that you’re going to get muddy.
- In other words, wear clothes that won’t be ruined if it gets wet or muddy and will keep you warm when it gets cold and dark!
- We’re a rain or shine event - the worse the weather, the more the fun!
- Watch your step! Remember the part about muddy, slick trails?
- If you’re working Friday and/or Saturday, there will be scarers on the trails! They may end up scaring you, too, at least on your first round through the trail. What we know from years past is that the fun of watching your group get spooked will eventually outweigh any of your own jitters.
Finally… Have fun! You make it possible for this event to be as safe as it is fun, and we’re so glad to have you with us!
