Volunteer: Youth Tour GuideProvide a fun and meaningful education experience for children (schools, scouts, daycares, preschools, etc.) in the Garden! Tours take place throughout the developed areas of the Garden as well as our natural areas. Tours are typically 1.5 hours in length and can cover between ¾ mile to 1 ½ miles. Each guide will lead 15 to 20 students along with several adult chaperones. Volunteer: Outdoor GardenerContribute to beautiful, inspiring, and well-maintained public gardens. Gardening Outdoors begins in April and concludes in mid-November, dependent on the weather. April-May ~ Take part in Green House transplanting and dividing plants, adding compost and mulch to the flowerbeds, cutting back plants, and removing mulch from roses and planting roses. Spring cleaning in the gardens consists of sweeping, picking up twigs and leaves and other debris. May-June ~ Beautiful summer landscapes require planting annual and perennials flowerbeds, watering plants and fertilizing roses, and of course, mulching, weeding, dead-heading, and digging spent spring-flowering bulbs. June-Sept ~ Maintain the gardens by weeding, mulching, pruning, dead-heading, and staking plants, as well as sweeping, and raking leaves. Sept-Nov ~Help prepare for winter and next spring by planting bulbs and perennials, cleaning up beds, mulching, and putting roses to bed.
