We are thrilled to host an enchanting evening at Heritage Hill Historical Park this Halloween season! Step back in time as our park transforms into a whimsical and slightly eerie wonderland for trick-or-treaters of all ages.  

Event Details:

Catering: 888 Cheese Co. Available from 10:30am-2:30pm

Each year, Heritage Hills annual trick or treating events sees around 1000 attendees, making it our largest attended one day event. We kindly ask our volunteers to provide bags of candy if they are able.

Volunteer Info:  

As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a magical experience for our guests. Children in costumes will wander through the park, eagerly collecting treats from volunteers like yourself at our various historical buildings!  You'll not only help preserve our historical village's charm but also create lasting memories for families in our community. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in history while celebrating the spirit of Halloween in a unique setting.  

PLEASE INDICATE IN WHICH AREA YOU WOULD PREFER TO VOLUNTEER. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO ASSIGN YOU TO THESE POSITONS, BUT NO GUARENTEES. 

CHECK-IN/FRONT DESK SHIFT: 8:30am- 2:30pm (6 hour shift)

Work closely with front desk staff to check people in, collect tickets, put on wrist bands, provide information, take payments, and collaborate with other volunteers.  

Greet & Register: Welcome attendees warmly, register them efficiently, and collect any required payments.   Provide Information: Offer event details, distribute materials, and address attendee inquiries.   Manage Flow: Ensure smooth attendee flow, troubleshoot issues, and assist those with special needs.   Team Coordination: Collaborate with fellow volunteers and staff for seamless operations.   Security Awareness: Stay alert for security concerns and emergencies, following event protocols.   Feedback & Adaptability: Provide feedback for process improvement and adapt to changes during the event.  

TREAT HANDOUT SHIFT:

Shift Option 1- 8:45am- 12:15pm (3.5 hour shift)

Shift Option 2- 12:15-4:00pm (3.5 hour shift)

As a tram driver, you will be responsible for picking up and dropping off visitors in various locations around the 56-acre park. Whether you're driving the tram on a normal business day, providing lifts during busy community events, or chauffeuring a pair of newlyweds, tram drivers provide an invaluable service to our visitors. And because the date and length of tram driving shifts vary depending on event needs, volunteers can pick and choose the opportunities that work for their schedules. 

A valid driver's license required as well as a short Tram Driver Course (provided by us prior to your first tram driving shift).

Fortunately, with 56 acres of nature, firewood is never far away and volunteers like you help make it available for use in the park.

As a volunteer team member of Heritage Hill State Historical Park, you will help build a positive working environment as well as inspire, transform, and build our community through exceptional cultural and historic experiences. Under the general supervision of the Park’s Director of Operations, the volunteer firewood splitter provides principal support and assures seamless functioning of the (Restoration/Maintenance Department).

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Restoration/Maintenance staff with splitting and distributing firewood supply. Dependability - adhere to prescheduled work times and dates. Work safely and adhere to Heritage Hill procedures. This position has a flexible work schedule however scheduling in advance is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities: 

Operating a hydraulic log splitter. Operating a golf cart utility vehicle. Equipment maintenance checks prior to shift.

The Length of Appointment: Year-round.

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling, however scheduling in advance is highly preferred.

Qualifications:

Positive attitude required to maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and staff. Ability to represent the organization in a professional and positive manner. Safe operation of assigned equipment with physical agility, optical, auditory, and manual dexterity. Ability to lift to 50 pounds as necessary.

But it’s worth it – having historic equipment that looks brand new in our historic spaces helps transport visitors into the past and gives them an experience to remember.

As a volunteer team member of Heritage Hill State Historical Park, you will help build a positive working environment as well as inspire, transform, and build our community through exceptional cultural and historic experiences. Under the general supervision of the Park’s Director of Operations, provides principal support and assures seamless functioning of the (Restoration/Maintenance Department). 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Restoration/Maintenance department with the Restoration and Preservation of exhibit farm equipment at Heritage Hill’s Belgian farm area that dates from 1870-1910.

Key Responsibilities:

Disassemble, repair, replicate missing components, clean, paint, reassembly.

The Length of Appointment: Ongoing.

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling, however scheduling in advance is highly preferred.

Qualifications:

Equipment repair or general mechanical understanding- however do not need to be specifically knowledgeable of the workings of old farm equipment. Knowledge of using oxy/acetylene torch. Basic knowledge of gas or MIG welding. Some wood working knowledge is preferred.

Support: Safety training pertaining to this position will be provided by Heritage Hill staff. All PPE and tools provided by Heritage Hill.

Age Requirement: 18+

Dress Code: Sturdy shoes, presentable and appropriate clothing for the type of duties described.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Dependability - adhere to prescheduled work times and dates. Adhere to specific cleaning instructions. Work safely and adhere to Heritage Hill procedures.

Key Responsibilities:  

Maintain the park’s picnic tables with light repairs. Maintain the park grounds free of litter. Maintain clean picnic areas by washing tables. Monitor recycling and trash receptacles throughout the park. Assist with general interior and exterior building cleaning.

The Length of Appointment: May 1st to October 1st  

Time Commitment: Minimum of 6 hours/week, flexible scheduling, however scheduling in advance is highly preferred. Working Outdoors: 7:00am start time preferred.

Qualifications

Positive attitude required to maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and staff. Ability to represent the organization in a professional and positive manner. Safe operation of assigned equipment with physical agility, optical, auditory and manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as necessary.

Under the general supervision of the Park’s Maintenance / Grounds coordinator, the volunteer grounds care helper provides principal support and assures seamless functioning of the Restoration/Maintenance Department. 

  

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Dependability- adhere to prescheduled work times and dates. Adhere to specific instructions following Heritage Hill grass mowing maps. Work safely and adhere to Heritage Hill procedures.

Purpose: Assist the Restoration/Maintenance staff with grounds care duties.

Key Responsibilities:  

Operation of string trimmers, push mowers, golf cart utility vehicle. Equipment maintenance checks prior to shift. Clean equipment after use.

The Length of Appointment: April 1st to October 31st 

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling, but scheduling in advance is highly preferred.

Qualifications

Positive attitude required to maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and staff. Ability to represent the organization in a professional and positive manner. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Dependability- adhere to prescheduled work times and dates. Adhere to specific instructions following Heritage Hill grass mowing maps. Work safely and adhere to Heritage Hill procedures.

Purpose: Assist the Restoration/Maintenance staff with grounds care duties.

Key Responsibilities:  

Operation of string trimmers, push mowers, golf cart utility vehicle. Equipment maintenance checks prior to shift. Clean equipment after use.

The Length of Appointment: April 1st to October 31st 

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling, but scheduling in advance is highly preferred.

Qualifications

Positive attitude required to maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and staff. Ability to represent the organization in a professional and positive manner. Safe operation of assigned equipment with physical agility, optical, auditory and manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as necessary.

Support: Safety training pertaining to this position will be conducted by R/M staff.

As a living history cultural organization, Heritage Hill State Historical Park takes pride in bringing the past to life and demonstrating things like old farm equipment, blacksmithing techniques and 19th century printing presses for our visitors. But we also use plenty of 21st century machinery behind the scenes to help maintain the park and we need your help to keep our modern machinery running!

JOB SUMMARY

As a team member of Heritage Hill State Historical Park, you will help build a positive working environment as well as inspire, transform and build our community through exceptional cultural and historic experiences. Under the general supervision of the Park’s (Restoration/ Maintenance Manager), (Equipment Mechanic)provides principal support and assures seamless functioning of the (Restoration/Maintenance Department).

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Preventive maintenance and repairs of the park’s golf carts both gasoline and electric.

Preventive maintenance and repairs of the park’s small equipment-including weed trimmers,  chainsaws, riding lawn mowers.

Medium size equipment preventative maintenance-including oil, air, fluid filter changes on a RAM 3500 truck, Genie Ariel lift, Bobcat skid steer, John Deere tractor.

Some basic rust and paint repairs required with the preventive maintenance duties.

Moderate Knowledge of diesel engines, Hydraulics, brake repairs and powertrains a plus however not required.  

Purpose: Assist the Restoration/Maintenance department with the preventative maintenance and repairs to the park’s power equipment.

Maintain a stocked toolbox and hand tools in good working order.

Perform preventative equipment maintenance.

Troubleshoot and Diagnose equipment problems.

Determine needed parts for equipment and perform repairs.

The Length of Appointment: Ongoing year round

Time Commitment: 4hrs/week, flexible scheduling

Qualifications: Knowledgeable of small gasoline engines and small equipment repair. Medium equipment repair would be additionally helpful however not required.

Support: Safety training pertaining to this position will be conducted by R/M staff.

Position Description

Seasonal historical interpreters share the stories of Northeastern Wisconsin with visitors of all ages through demonstrations, presentations, storytelling, and performances. They work within a variety of historic buildings, wear period appropriate clothing, and demonstrate traditional skills and crafts. Historic interpreters report to the Director of Engagement.

Primary Duties

Learn historical material related to one or more areas of the park and be able to take training/direction from senior interpreters and staff Use third-person interpretation to informally engage with visitors of all ages Utilize special skills (listed below) to perform living history demonstrations Wear, care for, and clean historically accurate clothing, props, and buildings Conduct guided tours of specific buildings and/or tram tours of the park Provide excellent, friendly customer service Other duties as assigned

Special Skills

Experience in or a strong desire to learn skills in one or more of the following areas: blacksmithing, print making, textile art, carpentry, historic cooking, historical reenacting, farming/gardening, music (vocal or instrumental), historic firearms, language skills, 19th century military life, etc.

Work Environment

This position requires primarily outdoor work which can occur in adverse climate conditions. Work may be performed in poorly lit areas, near open fires, and in areas that vary from quiet to loud. Applicants should be able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. Accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis and those in need of accommodation are encouraged to apply.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, seasonal position that runs from Tuesdays - Sundays from May - October. Historical interpreters are needed:
