The Sunflower Cottage provides day respite for individuals and families of those with memory related diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia. This program is part of Sunshine Resources, which is an organization is Door County that provides day, employment, and education services to adults with disabilities. Our clients receive individualized care and would be thrilled to spend time with kind and dedicated volunteers.

There are so many fun activities in the Sunflower Cottage! We cook, bake, play games, read, and enjoy the many volunteers who come to share their time with our clients. There is always something fun going on, and often we have local musicians, therapy dogs, and other organizations share their talents with everyone at Sunshine Resources and the Sunflower Cottage.

If you love treasure hunting, this is definitely the right position for you. We receive countless donations to the store every day and could use some assistance sorting what is and is not sellable. If you’ve got a nose for a steal or bargain, bring on over your expertise. You’ll be working with our team to unpack, sort, and prepare items to be sent over to the store. This volunteer position will take place at Sunshine House. You might get dirty from time to time, so consider wearing something comfortable that you’re okay getting dirty when serving. 

As a sorting volunteer, you’ll be helping get the best pieces on the floor! The sooner we get items out, the sooner they move and the funds can help one of our many programs here at Sunshine House. Your keen eye will provide services to members of our community. And, you’ll be working alongside employees of the organizations, so it’s a great way to meet new people.

We are following safety protocols in response to COVID-19. These include: health screenings, signing in and out, requiring masks, and social distancing. Children under 15 may volunteer but need to accompany an adult. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any further questions.
