What is Project Homeless Connect?
Project Homeless Connect is an annual event that brings resources and services together under one roof to best serve those experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Typically, over 500 guests and 400 volunteers attend Milwaukee Project Homeless Connect for this one day event. In Waukesha, over 100 volunteers support over 150 guests. Milwaukee has hosted this event since 2009, and Waukesha had its first event in 2019. Event Date:-Milwaukee: Thursday, October 16th -Waukesha: Tuesday, October 22nd Volunteer Opportunity Description: We are looking for guest advocate volunteers who will assist individuals, connecting them with resources and services provided throughout the resource fair. Volunteers will: Interact one-on-one with guests throughout the day.Guide guests to needed services and resources.Help throughout the day, assisting with lunch, the health and hygiene room, the check in/check out processes, and other resource areas. Shifts: Morning: 9:00am-1:00pm Afternoon: 11:30am-3:30pm All-day: 9:00am-4:00pmTo formally register, please go to the Project Homeless Connect page and sign up for your preferred shift. Other Important Information:Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Volunteer Orientation: New volunteers are required to attend a virtual orientation on Thursday, October 9 from 9:00 a.m.- 9:45 a.m. (This will be recorded and emailed to all registered volunteers who are unable to attend the training.)Individuals must pre-register to secure a spot to volunteer. There will be no volunteer walk-ins the day of the event. Team Sign-Ups: If you are a company looking to sign-up an entire team, please email Lauren Domski to see if there is availability and to share how many spots you are looking to fill. We cannot guarantee that teams will all be volunteering in the same area. Deadline to submit team rosters to the United Way is September 29.Bilingual Volunteers Needed: If you are bilingual, please note this in your registration and in what language. Mental Health Training: If you are mental health first-aid trained or a certified mental health professional, please note this in your registration.Thank you for your interest in supporting this event! We are looking to add more individuals who are willing to jump in with notice to help with a variety of activities at our Milwaukee and/or Waukesha sites as the need arises. Upon a brief interview, we will further understand your expertise and expectations in supporting our volunteer efforts. We look forward to matching your interest to our needs.
