Who We Are

The Mission of Literacy Partners is to establish a framework to provide literacy education to county residents by promoting an awareness of literacy issues, determining literacy needs, networking with other counties, training and supporting tutors, reaching out to those who need the service, and, most importantly, providing regular, long-term, one-on-one tutoring.

Literacy training strives to improve participants' basic linguistic skills in order to enrich and expand the potential for family and community life. The goal of an English literacy program is to improve the reading, comprehension, writing, and speaking skills of Kewaunee County participants. Ongoing, locally-driven county literacy programs will be highly visible, easily accessible and will include trained tutors and effective instructional materials. Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County, Inc. has been in existence for 6 years.

Some examples of student accomplishments that were achieved with tutor help would be:
1. Seven students took and passed the US Citizenship exam
2. Three students took and passed the GED exam
3. One student took and passed the WI Real estate exam
4. One student took and passed the WI Cosmetology exam

What We Do

Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Kewaunee County residents through the gift of literacy. Our 55+ excited volunteer tutors inspire our 60+ adult students everyday to reach their ultimate potential.

One in eleven adults in Kewaunee County is illiterate, and for six years Literacy Partners has being playing a huge role in helping adults gain first time employment, receive promotions, and obtain a better quality of life for themselves, their families, and our community as a whole.

Our organization has guided seven of our students to passing the US Citizenship exam. We also have three students who have obtained their GED. We feel there is no greater gift than literacy, and no single better way for a person to create a brighter future than learning how to read.

Our volunteer tutors are matched with a student and meet once a week (or every other week, depending on schedules). When you tutor, you are not only helping your adult student make a better life for themselves, but for their children as well.
