AmeriCorps is a program for individuals ages 17 and up. Upon successful completion of an AmeriCorps term of service individuals receive an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award to apply towards eligible tuition or student loan expenses. In addition, some AmeriCorps positions provide a small living stipend.

There are three AmeriCorps programs:

  • AmeriCorps State & National, provide direct service to meet community needs
  • AmerICorps VISTA, year long service experience working to eliminate poverty in communities
  • AmeriCorps NCCC, 10 month residential program for individuals 17-24

SeniorCorps works with nonprofit organizations and local agencies—both secular and faith-based—to promote service opportunities for older Americans. Senior Corps volunteers not only help reduce the cost of service, they provide invaluable skills and experience along with their dedication and concern for their communities. Depending on the SeniorCorps program, participants may receive a small living stipend and/or mileage reimbursement for their service.

There are three SeniorCorps programs:

  • Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, for all volunteers 55 and over who want to find challenging, rewarding, and significant service opportunities in their local communities.
  • Senior Companion Program, brings together volunteers age 55 and over with adults in their community who have difficulty with the simple tasks of day-to-day living.
  • Foster Grandparent Program, connects volunteers age 55 and over with children and young people with exceptional needs.
