Connecting Volunteers with Community Needs

Mission:  The Voluntary Action Center will serve as a clearing house for volunteer efforts; provide education, training, and technical assistance to community based organizations and volunteers and will collaborate with others to address timely community issues.

Programs and Services:
Skillsbank

VAC provides a community clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups throughout the Stateline area. In addition to contacting volunteers already registered with the Skillsbank database, VAC partners with local media to promote weekly volunteer Bulletin Board listings and co-operates with schools, companies, clubs, and faith organizations to place citizens wishing to share their skills and interests.


Grant Center

Trained volunteers are available to Center members for:
Proposal Writing,Donor Research,Long-Range Planning,Consultations

Volunteers are assigned by the Grant Center Coordinator for one project at a time. Requests for services are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Assignment of a volunteer for consultation, long-range planning, or research, must be made through the Grant Center Office by calling Lynnette Newton at 608-365-1278 or

Workshops offered during the year may include:
   
Preparing for Grant Writing
    Advanced Grant Writing
    Fund Development
    Budgeting for Non-Profits
    Fundraising

Some are presented by area volunteers, others by nationally-known trainers.  They are provided to Grant Center members at a reduced cost and the general public is also invited to attend at regular prices.

Grant Center volunteers receive free training in grant writing skills and donor research.

Chore Service
Some examples of the services available include, but are not limited to: any kind
of yard work, snow removal, storm window/screen installation - as well as removal and washing, housekeeping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, painting, the installation and removal of air conditioners and running errands.

Air Conditioners for Seniors
Contact Voluntary Action Center for more information.  For donations, we need working units, new or used, preferably not over 8,000 BTU's. We are not able to accept any 220 volt units.

Who is eligible?
Low income seniors 60 years and older.

During the past four years, VAC placed air conditioners in the homes of seniors in need. The demand for cooling equipment continues.

VAC is working with the Rock County Council on Aging to reduce the likelihood of heat related illness for seniors in Rock County, Wisconsin.
